Kaguya Sama Love Is War Season 3 Episode 2 Overview

Kaguya Sama Love Is War Season 3 Episode 2 Title

Kaguya sama Love is War Season 3 or Kaguya sama wa Kokurasetai Season 3 in original Japanese (stylised as Kaguya-sama Love is War Season 3 and Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai Season 3) is a romance, comedy, and psychological warfare (yes, really) anime based on the manga of the same name written by Aka Akasaka. Seasons 1 and 2 of the show aired in 2019 and 2020, respectively, and this series serves as a direct sequel to them.

The anime is developed by A-1 Pictures, who have been responsible for some of the most highly acclaimed shows in these times, including 86 and Erased, alongside both the previous seasons of Kaguya-sama. Shinichi Omata is directing this season, and he was also responsible for directing both the previous seasons of the show. This episode, with its tagline, is referred to as Kaguya Sama Love Is War Ultra Romantic Episode 2! Click here to read our review of the previous episode!

Kaguya Sama Love Is War Season 3 Episode 2 Plan

Hayasaka is an interesting character, to say the least. She is the long-suffering caretaker to Kaguya and, because of that, doesn’t appear to have much of a life of her own. However, looks can be deceiving, as she is actually the most outgoing and well-informed person in the entire show. She has been the voice of reason and a highly supportive personality since the show’s start, and she wasn’t going to stop doing her duties in this new season. However, this time around, she takes things into her own hands to show Kaguya how capable she is.

However, in the second season, the episode where she attempted the same thing after being goaded by Kaguya was one of the more uncomfortable of the show, so it was already treading on dangerous grounds this time around. Hayasaka coming in between Kaguya and Miyuki is always going to be a little uncomfortable, especially since we know how much the couple like each other and how Hayasaka interfering will only lead to one of two even more uncomfortable situations- her falling for the president or being fired by Kaguya, none of which are fun.

Karaoke Kaguya Sama Love Is War Season 3 Episode 2

The karaoke segment was thus not the best the show has ever done. It was funny and had the same charm that the show always had that elevates each scene no matter its quality, but depending upon your taste, you might or might not have fun with this one. Other than the subject matter, the content of this episode was great and your usual Kaguya-sama fair. There were misunderstandings, gags, and character developments to see us through this outing. The best thing about shows like this is there isn’t just one storyline to focus on at any given moment.

This episode had another segment that focused on the relationship, or the lack thereof, between Yuu and Miko. They have a delightfully complex dynamic of helping each other out in a way that the other doesn’t find out and hating each other when that’s not happening. What happened with the two here was hilarious and creative, and their problem was solved in an ingenious manner by a character who was one of the best parts of this episode. It is in segments like these where you see the true strength of this show. It mostly resides with its fantastic cast and how humanely it portrays them.

Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai Ultra Romantic Episode 2 also featured some phenomenal animation and music. The show never hesitates to try out different animation styles and techniques, and there were some great ones here. From watercolour to pastel, there were several great frames that were accompanied by a great soundtrack to boot. We heard and saw the visuals for the opening and ending themes together for the first time, but it will take a few more listens to form an opinion on them.

Verdict

Kaguya Sama Love Is War Season 3 Episode 2 was a decent episode that featured a lot of what we love about the series, with a storyline that didn’t hit as well as the show hoped. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
