Kaalratri Season 2 Review
We are back with the family that lusts after one daughter-in-law obscenely, and this season doesn’t feel any better. Dramatic, over-the-top and completely senseless, this season leans into Debi’s confusion regarding her past and leaves us in a confused loop until she remembers everything. Till then, we are left to watch the same dialogues being told over and over again as everyone sleeps with one another. It’s almost incestuous.

I think what’s most frustrating about this series in general is that the audience has to wait for Debi to catch up, as we learn and infer almost all of the information from the very beginning. After a while, Debi’s wide-eyed expression in every scene gets way too old too fast. You can only have patience for so long, but things just never come together believably. Either way, the series continues on its journey of spewing unnecessarily degrading dialogues for the sake of it, and the whole host of terrible characters doesn’t make things better.
In the end, I was left uncomfortable and unhappy with the morally bankrupt characters, and the pacing is terrible enough that it leaves you bored for long stretches of time. The acting is over-the-top and unbelievable, and you will find yourself unable to truly immerse yourself in the series because of it. Constantly repeating each other’s dialogues and mentioning obvious things takes away from the mystery to such an extent that you can’t help but wonder when and if we will ever get to the point.

Kaalratri Season 2 Ending Explained
In this season, we finally learn who the killer is as Debi finally pieces her past together. Throughout the season, more and more members of the Ray Barman family continue to die, including all of the heirs of the family, while we learn about who was having an affair with whom. While there is not much to talk about with respect to the latter, the series concluded with familiar beats as the truth comes to light.

What is Debi’s past?
Debi has been a part of the Ray Barman family since childhood. However, 6 years previously, her real family suffered tremendous trauma, which resulted in her older sister, Uma, being murdered by the Ray Barman family after she became pregnant with Ajitesh’s child. Following this, Debi herself was assaulted by the three sons, and her mother killed herself as a result. Heartbroken and having seen all of this with her own eyes, Debi develops Dissociative Identity Disorder, and Maya is a part of that identity.

Who is the killer?
In episode 6, we are given a hint that Debi, with her mental health trauma, might be the killer. However, Satyaki realises that an ambidextrous person is the killer. Thus, it can only be Samaresh, Debi or someone else. He gets the final clue from Ajitesh’s room and realises that it’s Shibani’s husband, Bijoy, who is the killer.

He reveals that he is actually Animesh Acharya’s brother, Akhilesh, who is taking revenge for his brother’s death. The four Ray Barman siblings implicated Debi and his brother in sexual relations and “exposed” it to Animesh’s wife. In the end, Debi witnesses Animesh committing suicide in front of her and loses her sanity, giving birth to Maya as a coping mechanism. Meanwhile, his sister-in-law, too, took her own life as a result. Thus, Animesh, giving up his career, infiltrated the Ray Barman household and married Shibani to avenge his family’s destruction.
What happens to Debi?
Debi is sent to a mental health facility, where she receives treatment, and after two years, she comes out completely cured, and it is implied that she and Satyaki start a relationship.

Is justice delivered?
Akhilesh is given the death penalty for his crimes, while everyone involved is also investigated, including Satyaki’s corrupt seniors. Satyaki, too, becomes the SP as a result of his work, and things seem to have become some sort of normal.
