8 K-Pop Songs Dedicated to Mothers To Remind You of Their Warm Embrace: MAMA by BTS, Dear Mom by Girls’ Generation and More

With Mother’s Day 2023 just around the corner, there are many ways we can make a difference to this singular parent who has no parallel. In order to celebrate them in all their glory, we have compiled a few K-Pop songs dedicated to mothers. These songs explore the relationships the artists had with their mothers, the love they had for them and the aspiration their existence has given. To feel all the feels, check out the list below.

K-Pop Songs Dedicated to Mothers

MAMA by BTS

Sung by J-Hope in the band, this song is about growing up with his mother at a time resources were scarce, and they were barely making any money to live comfortably. His mother had done her best to give him a life he could lead with autonomy. Now this song chronicles how his journey has given him the foresight to be the anchor for her. She can lean on him now because he wants to give it all back.

Dear Mom by Girls’ Generation

Even though we are all annoyed by our mothers at some point, our love for them never dies. This song chronicles that and how even on a bad day, a single call from a mother changes everything. Even when the kids do something stupid, the mother is always close behind to ensure they’re okay and not going down the wrong path. If they are, the mother is right there to be the supportive figure. This song is a praise for the mother and an aspirational track.

Wish You Were Here by CL

Dedicated to his mother, this song is about losing a parent but still feeling them in spirit and in the things they loved. The singer asks the question over and over again whether their mother has been looking down on them and their life. If she ever misses them up there and it is a sweet sentiment because it is not sad per se but just nostalgic and curious. The song gives the vibe that physical presence is not the only thing that keeps someone alive.

Flower Way by Sejeong

Using the metaphor of rain and flowers, this song also talks about the sacrifices and the trouble a mother goes through in order to support a child. Youth, money and peace are all traded for a single person who may or may not be grateful for this later. The singer, however, highlights the mother’s contribution to the finest.

Red Sun by Jang Woo Hyuk

In this song, the artist is the most apologetic. They are incredibly sad that they had put their mother through so much when all they did was defend their kid. Even when the kid tries to push away from them, they are always right there to receive the prodigal son back. Even though there are many ways the artist has let their mother down, this song is a big apology soundtrack with specific and relevant experiences to their life.

The Light by The Ark

In a song that resembles female friendship, this song takes a dive into how the mother-child relationship is often that of a partnership. When everyone leaves, the mother is still here. They are still together, by themselves. But this time, the child is returning the favour by asking the mother to lean on them, using different metaphors to share that they will always have each other’s backs.

MOM by Infinite

Once again, the song is about giving back to the mother, the figure who has suffered, braved and sustained even in difficult times while taking care of a child. The world may change, and everything around may be transient, but this partnership and this sentiment will never change for the child who has confessed. Most importantly, this song is about telling the mother that they love them, even with all the conflict and pain.

This song is about remembering that the mother was also a woman with a whole other life before they became a mother, and in that sense, there is this stark realisation that this version of that person comes alive in certain settings. The artist shares how beautiful that is and explains how the mother always seemed like the biggest person, but then she can also be a little girl. The metaphors in this song remind listeners of the time everyone realises that their parents are people who have had their own adventures before taking on this role.
