Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 5 Recap

The episode opens with a glimpse into Panda’s birth, followed by the unjust capture of Yaga under false accusations. Soon after, Kusakabe is shown helping Panda escape confinement. Back in the present, it is revealed that Yaga could avoid execution if he discloses the technique used to create autonomous artificial cursed corpses.
Because this method is immensely powerful and easily exploitable, Yaga strongly opposed revealing it. When the truth finally comes out, the circumstances surrounding the revelation are chaotic and intense.

Meanwhile, Yuji and Megumi realise that their next crucial move in preparing for the Culling Games is recruiting Hakari. An upperclassman reputed to be even stronger than Yuta, Hakari becomes their primary target. The two decide to pursue the same goal through separate approaches, each acting on their own terms.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 6 Review

The episode begins with both Megumi and Panda effectively beating the members of the tournament and infiltrating their base. They finally get to the rooftop, but come face-to-face with Kirara. She immediately realises that Hakari is in danger, and that is when she calls him to inform him of the intruders. Here, Megumi tries to make her understand his position and how he is not with Jujutsu High anymore. We also get to know a bit more about Hakari’s past and why he left Jujutsu High. Apparently, his powers are very unconventional, and the conservative higher-ups were not interested in that.

They try to make Kirara understand that Gojo Satoru got sealed, which is why they need their help. But this kind of statement is such an outrageous one that she refused to believe it. Thus, the only thing that Megumi could do was to force his way inside the room Hakari was in, and for that, he started to fight with Kirara. The fight was pretty interesting, as we got to know more about Kirara’s power. However, the thing that completely steals the show is again Mappa’s absolutely brilliant animation.

They are using multiple techniques to give life to every panel, as they look completely out of this world. Then the last segment, where we get to see an intense altercation between Yuji and Hakari, was pure cinema. Every move is getting animated with carefully illustrated panels, and this makes the action sequences all the more eye-catching. Towards the end, I was really feeling bad about Yuji, but the way he handled his situation was commendable.
Verdict

I absolutely loved this episode, and I genuinely think it stands out as one of the strongest installments of the season so far. The animation was near flawless, elevating even the simpler moments. The characters were written and portrayed with a lot of care and depth.
The emotional weight of the episode really landed, especially with how the conflict of ideas between Yuji and Hakari was shown. On top of that, the introduction of a new character toward the end added an exciting hook. I am even more eager to see where the story goes next.
