Ishq Next Door Episode 9 Recap
Dev feels sad for his mother, who always works for him and his brother without proper rest. To make her happy, he promises her a new smart TV. On his way to his office, he finds Meher arguing with Mr. Sattu, who was caught bribing the community people with alcohol to vote for him. Since Meher’s uncle is also standing for the Raja Vihar colony’s president role, she yells at the unfair move of Mr. Sattu. Dev interferes and calms them all down. He then speaks quite cheesily to Meher and makes her smile.
At the office, Dev notices all his staff glaring at him. He is then called into the manager’s cabin and gets suspended. Unaware of what happened, Dev requests Ruchi to lie on behalf of him because he believes that Ashwin’s NGO deserves the loan. Ruchi feels guilty for putting Dev in this position despite him still looking out for Ashwin.
Dev calls his mother and tells her that he will buy a TV soon and hides his suspension matter. He hangs out at the Chowmein shop, reminiscing about the pain his mother went through to bring them up alone. When Meher calls him, she notices that something’s off with him. So they meet up in the garden and Dev vents. Meher somehow helps him feel better.

Previously, Meher received a scholarship from the Italy School of Fashion. She wanted to share the news with Dev, but after seeing his state, she decides to keep things low. Just then, Ruchi calls Dev and tells him that she is at Raja Vihar. He asks her to come to the garden and enquires about her visit.

Ruchi opens up about the truth to Dev, saying that Ashwin asked her to place all his loan sanction documents in front of the manager. The manager read the papers and found that Dev used short-cut methods to sanction a loan to Ashwin (he had a good deed). Ruchi apologises to Dev, and the latter rushes to Ashwin’s house.
They both bawl at each other until Meher stops the fight. Dev states that Ashwin did this out of jealousy because he won her over him. This statement pisses Meher, and she lashes at both of them. Ashwin asks Meher how she could choose Dev, who is nothing near him. Meher rages at Dev before leaving the spot. Dev looks at Ashwin and says his actions have ruined a family’s income.

When Dev leaves, Ruchi tells Ashwin that one will choose a person like Dev because despite having differences, he still chose to sanction the loan and not hold any grudges. This statement makes Ashwin guilty. At home, Meher avoids all the texts from Dev and looks at her college acceptance letter, lost in thoughts.
Ishq Next Door Episode 9 Review
Usually, in a love triangle, the second lead syndrome tends to happen, but sadly, the directors sketched Ashwin realistically, so it didn’t occur. But let me tell you; it is a good thing. Say, in K-dramas, the second lead would be too sweet and hideous about their feelings. But in reality, come on, that doesn’t happen.
Though some might not go to the extreme to break someone’s relationship, at least a pang of jealousy would be there. So the character sketch of Ashwin is definitely true and relatable. Note that his parents died when he was a child, and he’s got the kind of love from Meher only. So him being upset over his lost love is understandable.

One aspect I found concerning is Meher feeling disappointed at Dev. The man just lost his job due to a jealous guy, and so he was fighting. Why did she get upset over them two fighting for her? Honestly, she could have yelled at Ashwin and walked away with Dev or let it pass. She made the whole scene look like it was about her. No honey, Dev lost his job and is hella worried about his family. After this scene, the series’ tagline, “It’s simply complicated”, made sense.
We have just one more episode to go. I don’t know how the director will give a convincing end, so let’s wait and see.
