iNumber Number Jozi Gold Review: The South African movie directed by Donovan Marsh, who is well-known for his hit pictures Avenged (2013) and Hunter Killer (2018), has once again produced a hit movie starring Deon Lotz, Noxolo Dlamini, Fana Mokoena, Presley Chweneyagae, S’Dumo Mtshali, Clementine Mosimane, Bongile Mantsai and others. iNumber Number Jozi Gold Plot

When two police officers, Chili and Shoes, try to track down a gold heist, one of the cops gets too close to the underground gang and has to make a critical choice between choosing to save the gang or work for the law system.

iNumber Number Jozi Gold Review

Who doesn’t love a crazy duo movie? Be it Sherlock Holmes and Watson, Walter White and Jesse Pinkman, Lee and Carter, etc., every movie that has two main leads running a mission together, causing chaos and drama, is usually a recipe for success. Likewise, iNumber Number Jozi Gold also includes two prominent characters Chili and Shoes, who are wholesome in all possible ways.

Speaking of the cops, Chili and Shoes, they complete each other. Chili is a single man whose life’s motive is to create an impact and be rebellious. Shoes is a family man who wishes to feed his family and live a simple life. However, without Chili’s fiery nature, Shoes will remain a submissive officer, and without Shoes’s wisdom, Chili will lose his life.

When the officers are put together on a gold heist mission, Chili decides to go undercover and get along with the underworld heist gang. During the process, Chili unravels the truth about the heist gang and learns their true intention. From here on, the cop duo separates.

With respect to the action sequences, the movie offers not just some serious martial arts vibe but also a tad bit of gore scenes (it somehow works). The character of Chili and his love interest Dimo are the iconic pair when it comes to fighting off the bad guys, and I must say I shipped them.

A View Into the South African Hood

Movies stand as the medium of cultural connection because the global audience can witness and learn about another country’s culture. In this flick, the viewers are shown the neighbourhood of Johannesburg, the comparison between the rich and the poor, the battle between gangs, the silent revolt, corrupted law officers, the lives of abandoned children, the education system, and such.

Remember, the movie isn’t re-instating that South Africans are underdeveloped, but it shows the reality that the country is developing, and the reason behind the disadvantages is the political power and crime. Usually, there stays a taboo around certain countries, and through movies like this, we understand that such ideologies are long gone.

Good Humour and Great Cultural Vibes

I couldn’t resist a chuckle when Brigadier mocks the white men for their never-ending challenge to understand the different gangs. The writers have put great effort into adding subtle humour here and there to make the movie vibrant and thrilling.

One important and wholesome part of the movie is the Afro dances. The solid 5 minutes of Afro music performance at the club where Chili and Dimo flex their moves won’t fail you. Honestly, the beat naturally makes your body groove while watching the movie. Another dance scene that comes towards the climax, where the kids and the two cops happily dance post-success is the highlight of the movie (you will know how beautiful the connection between the cops and the orphanage is when you watch the flick).

Final Thoughts

South African movies usually never fail me, and that said, Jozi Gold is another add-on to my favourite list. The dialogues, the duo’s chemistry, the action sequences, the choice of places, cultural aspects and the ultimate climax blended well.
