Insomniacs After School Episode 13 Review- Confession

There was a serenity to this week’s episode that was very different from the show’s tone as we have come to know it. We were previously trying to come to terms with the anxiety and insomnia that the protagonists experience and waiting for things to go wrong as they inevitably do. However, that wasn’t the case here, as things could not go wrong. No matter what happened or how the end of the trip ended up being, you knew Ganta and Magari would be just fine, as they had each other.

In other reviews previously, I have spoken in length about how good these two are for each other and how naturally the dynamic between them has prospered into what it is in the final episode. There could only be a single logical endpoint to everything, and this episode was built around us gradually working towards that. It happened, and it was a magical moment that paid dividends to all of us who have emotionally invested in the protagonists. For once, something that was built up in anime actually paid off nicely.

The trip to Mawaki Seki was a fruitful one for Ganta and Isaki, as not only were they able to come to terms with their insomnia but with their feelings for each other. That is not to say that everything is magically better now that the two have found each other, but they feel rejuvenated enough to work on themselves with each other’s help, which is enough! After they face the music for their actions – specifically defying Isaki’s parents, they should be off to a great start in their relationship.

However, with no Insomnicas After School Season 2 announced so far, this might have been the end of the road for the series as a whole, and I don’t mind it ending in the way it did. It left plenty up to our imagination while taking us back towards the steps Ganta and Isaki had to take to come this close and left things off at a place where it is okay to say goodbye to them and not to worry about their future. They’ve got each other to count on now, and as much as new things are scary, they are also exciting. I would not say no to an “Insomniacs After School: After Story”, though.

The episode was also as gorgeous as ever and solidified its run as having a surprisingly high production quality and value. The night sky is always mystical and gorgeous to look at through almost any medium, and the attention Insomniacs After School paid to recreate it and its photographs was great to have. The soundtrack, while being slow and limited to mostly Piano tunes, was easy on the ears and fit the show’s tone perfectly. This was a great ending to a fantastic show.
Verdict
Insomniacs After School Episode 13 was a sweet and hopeful ending to two characters who have earned it and to a series that deserves it. This was a fantastic experience to go through.
