Insomniacs After School is a romance and drama anime based on a manga written and illustrated by Makoto Ojiro. The series is animated by Studio LIDENFILMS and is also known as Kimisomu Episode 12 and Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia Episode 12 in original Japanese.
The Astronomy Club suffered a terrible tragedy when one of its members committed suicide some time ago. The club and where they used to work, the observatory, are all lying empty without use. It is the perfect scenario for two outsiders who don’t know a better use for their time to accidentally meet and go on a journey that would change their lives forever. They haven’t lived much of their lives, to begin with, so it’s not that big of a deal.
Grumpy insomniac Ganta Nakami stumbles across the moderately rebellious yet easygoing Isaki Magari in the Astronomy Club’s abandoned observatory. Magari is surprised and tries to avoid a confrontation, only to be stopped by a broken door, forcing the two of them inside. The two forge an unlikely friendship, leading them to use the observatory as a safe space for them to interact and discuss the one thing that ails them both- inability to sleep.

We are rapidly moving towards the end of the journey that Ganta and Isaki are on at the moment and, coincidentally, also at the end of this season. Despite it being the type of story you’d want to see continue for ages, all good things must come to an end. The main duo shared a very private and tender moment at the back of the house, alongside a very funny interaction as Ganta fell into the ocean. Let’s see where this journey takes them next!

I’m not quite sure if Ganta told the entirety of his story to Isaki, for the show curiously skipped right towards the end as the waterworks started. I am sure we will get some more answers in this episode, as the duo will finish their trip to look back and see the pictures they captured, and the moments they had together. The supporting cast should also make a return very soon, given it is now time for these characters to head on home. Well, it is close.

Ganta and Isaki make it to the bus to take them closer to Mitsukejima and reach the island with a lot of time to spare. They get the permissions sorted and set up the camera, only to find that they can’t do much until some time later. They spend a lot of quality time together and continue doing the same as they go to multiple places and return to Isaki’s maternal home after each of them. Ganta shares his anxiety about not finding his mother there one morning when he woke up, and the duo kissed.
