Insomniacs After School Episode 10 Review- The Kind Of Bond Only Siblings Can Share

Magari sisters Insomniacs After School Episode 10

This episode was beautifully articulated and executed. It had a few beats to hit as it set off, and it hit all of them and more while telling a compelling and beautiful tale of sibling bonds and even a father-son relationship. Come to think of it, that was the theme of this episode- familial bonds and how they are realised differently depending upon the personalities of the people involved. It was an extremely realistic portrayal of how life actually works, and asking more from a show like this is asking too much.

The much anticipated deeper look at Ganta’s relationship with his father wasn’t given much time. Still, the writers managed to knock it out of the park with some tightly written dialogue and being as subtle about things as possible. An extremely clear picture was painted of Ganta’s time as a young boy who lost his mother and probably blamed himself for it. His strained relationship with his father is a little more complicated, but Insomniacs After School Episode 10 gave a lot of clarity on why Ganta might feel how he feels, and you can understand him perfectly, given his age and situation.

Understanding was also a big theme of this episode, as Isaki and her sister played a central role in this episode. Their relationship is a fun one, and anyone who has ever had siblings can relate to either being Isaki or her sister at some point in their lives. It was an extremely realistic portrayal of what having a sibling is like and the special kind of bond that only siblings can share. It is obvious that there is a lot of love between the two, but they would sooner eat a slug than tell each other that.

Not just that, but initially, the show painted Isaki’s sister in a certain kind of light that might come across as insensitive. However, as we got deeper into the episode and she got the chance to have a few conversations, we got to understand her mindset and how treating Magari the way she did fit with everything. She was already a well-written character before this, but her dialogue regarding Isaki’s illness and the kind of relationship she hoped Ganta would have with Isaki made her one of the best in the entire show, which is a tall order.

At the risk of coming across like a broken record, it is a crime that Insomniacs After School isn’t more popular than it is. That might just be because the slice-of-life genre of anime is among the less popular, but even still, among fans of the genre, you would assume that this would be getting the attention that it deserved. Not many shows look this good, have this level of production, and tell an amazing story with well-rounded characters like this one.

Verdict

Insomniacs After School Episode 10 was very well written and profoundly relatable in the manner that it handled relationships between families. Slept-on is an apt way to describe this show at this point.
