Indu 2 Review

There’s something about Indu, both the character and the show, that you can’t help but be drawn to. The first season, which garnered rave reviews and fans who didn’t stop asking for a second season, ended on a juicy cliffhanger for the detectives in us to pull apart the mysteries within.

The second season is as juicy as the first part, and from the first episode, you can’t help but wonder who the culprit is behind our titular protagonist’s woes. The second season, too, takes its sweet time in providing answers to our most frequently asked questions.

The most interesting thing about Indu 2 is that it takes time to go down every nook and cranny of the dark alleys in Indu’s household, where everything seems just a bit off. It’s like, there’s something just out of reach; maybe if you look just a bit harder, you might be able to see things a bit clearer. Unfortunately, though, the mystery just gets more and more convoluted with every episode.

The trailer gives away Sougata’s death for some reason, but the mystery behind it oddly complicates things. It brings out a thousand other questions that finally bring us to the truth… or does it?

The season ends on another cliffhanger as well. For fans who wanted to finally know what the heck is happening in the affluent North Calcutta home, well, you’ll have to wait a bit longer. I think the series does itself a disservice by dragging this out more. Several times, you’d feel as if the truth is finally about to come out. Unfortunately, in place of creating another season, the creators constantly end up murdering more people to string us along.

And, honestly, I don’t have a problem with cliffhangers. But they have done this for two seasons straight, and I have a sinking suspicion that dragging the storyline out for a third (or, who knows, even a fourth) season is probably not the best of ideas. If anything, the sheer number of plotlines makes it too complicated and leaves the audience feeling frustrated.

It’s not to say that the season is bad – far from it. It is thoroughly enjoyable, and the season holds onto the tight suspense throughout its runtime. Although this time out, I feel like there were a bit more fillers in the runtime than last season; it’s not too bad and doesn’t bog the runtime down too much.

Ishaa Saha as Indu is absolutely amazing – she plays the role with grace and conviction. You want to follow her and hope she finds the answers that she is looking for. Her character is strong-headed and logical, and she makes all the right decisions given the circumstances.

There is a dearth of strong female characters in contemporary Bengali shows, but Indu does a brilliant job of giving us a regular person who chooses to break out of the mould that society has created for her and be someone she can be proud of.

Indu season 2 is another great addition to the genre that keeps the audience hooked to the storyline. Although you don’t get the answers to some of the biggest questions, you are given an inkling to make up your own minds until the next season (hopefully) answers them. Ishaa Saha brings forth a very likeable character who is as relatable as she is worth championing.

I only hope that they get the third season out quickly instead of making fans wait too long!
