Things looked as if they were progressing smoothly in the previous episode. Trust had started to form between Echidna and Leo (or Black Knight Onyx, as she knows him). We got to see a whole new side of Echidna- she is a heavy drinker! Cautiously progressing with his various tactics to escape from the work dinner without revealing his true identity, Leo was finally able to ask Echidna a question that had been bugging him for a long time. At last, we are presented with Echidna’s true motive for the war against the human race.

With the startling discovery of the letters left by the Demon Generals Mernes and Edwald, Leo’s confession of his true identity to the Queen is put on hold. Rather, in I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 5, he sets out to find Mernes. Mernes is of the same age as Leo and has decided to go on a journey to learn the skills of communication. When Leo finds Mernes, he requests Leo to help him as Leo seems to be an expert orator. How will Leo tackle this problem?

Yuusha Yamemasu Episode 5 dives deep into another common workplace problem- the lack of communication skills. One cannot just rely on their skill set alone. Interacting and networking are very important to survive in the organisation. But often, talking to people is hard. Interviewing people is scary. So how can they get over their fear and confidence in their ability to hold up a conversation? Leo tries his best to achieve this through a plan.

We got to see Mernes’ personality in depth in I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 5, alongside his reasoning and a bit of his history. As usual, Yuusha Yamemasu is going full-throttle on the workplace elements, mixing them into the main storyline to convey the central story of the show. We got to observe Leo from a different perspective in this episode. Instead of just being the usual ideal adult he was while dealing with the first two Generals, Leo seemed to be more of a mentor-type this episode. It was a good move on the writer’s part to bring him out of the stereotypical OP character archetype.

This episode of I’m Quitting Heroing flaunted a great dynamic between the characters of Leo and Mernes. Leo has learned from his previous experiences and is manoeuvring his task well, and Mernes stands equally with him, learning and arguing as reasonably as he can. The animations were decent. But not all was well. Conversing was a major part of this episode and was a bit of a drag after a point. The advice given by Leo to Mernes seems to be incomplete. Still, overall, it was a pretty decent episode, just nothing to “knock your socks off”.
