I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 2 Overview

I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 2

I’m Quitting Heroing, or Yuusha Yamemasu in Japanese, is an action, adventure, comedy, and fantasy focusing on a post-war world between humans and demons. It is based on the light novel “I’m Quitting Heroing” (Kadokawa Books) written by Quantum and the original character design done by Hana Amano.

The show is being produced with Yuu Nobuta (Saihate no Paladin, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear) serving as chief director, Hisashi Ishii (Ame-iro Cocoa: Side G) as the director, and Shigeru Murakoshi (Zombieland Saga, Murenase! Seton Gakuen) overseeing the series composition.

A huge corporation has recently suffered a massive depletion and has very few employees left to recuperate their losses. Oh, the chaos and the distress and the efforts it will take to rebuild the company! Yes, I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 2 deals with a similar scenario, only in this case, the huge corporation is the demon army! Intrigued? Let’s discuss this a bit more.

Yuusha Yamemasu Episode 2 starts with our ex-hero, Leo, trying to support Sorcerer General Shutina. Now that he has finally made it into the army on probation, he needs to be officially accepted by the Queen. Working on the edge, alongside people he had previously defeated, while keeping his identity a secret might seem like something that may take a toll on Leo. Will the great hero be able to find his place amongst the demons?

We have often heard of automation in the workplace. Often, this involves using tools or hiring newer employees to make the workload easier and to ease the supervisor’s duty. In Yuusha Yamemasu Episode 2, our hero is trying to do the same. The plot has such realistic tones that for a hot second we even forget that the task at hand is rebuilding the demon army. We see Shutina’s character in-depth. She might seem like a general who is unreliable and quick to make judgments. But in reality, she is a pretty smart general, and holds the potential to be paired with our ex-hero in the future!

Our hero is definitely taking a non-conventional path in terms of proving his worth. He could have utilized the powers and skills he smugly prides himself upon, but rather goes about teaching others how to be more useful and more skills and how to be a better leader. He is not trying to stand out. He is not casting any difficult spells or fighting a strong nemesis. He is actually doing the work for what he was hired for, and very well at that. These actions exhibit I’m Quitting Heroing’s grounded themes of maturity and realism. Being the strongest or just conquesting the human world is not all that heroes and demons have to deal with.

One of the demon generals, Shutina’s character is appealingly introduced, cleverly exposing a day in her life to showcase her exponential workload and hard-working personality. We can clearly see how quashed the demon empire is, and how sympathetic the Demon Queen is. The ex-hero’s character is also wonderfully represented: his empathy and great leadership skills are well-portrayed.

However, this also raises certain questions. If the hero is so skilled, why was he left alone in the first place? Why are his teammates not with him? Why could he not help his ex-hero-teammates improve in the areas they clearly lacked as mentioned in the previous episode. Why was his leadership skill so weak before? If he is able to convince the demon generals to let him join their side after he had utterly and unconditionally defeated them, why was he not able to convince the humans about his true intentions?

I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 2 has executed its plot in a well-structured way. It has laid a good foundation for the plot and characters and has left a good impression. Amongst so many anime present having the same basic characters, Yuusha Yamemasu has done a good job in setting it apart. The flow of the story is more in control than in the previous episode, and the character’s responses and the shift of the atmosphere between comedic and serious are properly handled. This surely puts this anime on an admirable track, and we want to see more of it!

Verdict

Aside from bringing a fresh perspective into an anime where the main characters are Heroes and Demons, I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 2 puts a business spin on the problems and their solutions. We would have never expected our Hero to be a smart, charismatic guy providing tangible solutions and relate to those solutions! This clever perspective has definitely fulfilled the expectations we had in the previous episode, and the soothing flow of the animation is also a plus! We can not wait to dive into this world more!
