I'm Quitting Heroing Episode 10

I’m Quitting Heroing, or Yuusha Yamemasu in Japanese, is an action, adventure, comedy, and fantasy focusing on a post-war world between humans and demons. Earth’s greatest hero has decided to “quit heroing” and surprisingly wants to join the demon army. It is based on the light novel “I’m Quitting Heroing” (Kadokawa Books) written by Quantum and the original character design done by Hana Amano.

The anime adaptation is developed by Studio EMT Squared, an outfit that has produced many other anime such as The High School Life of a Fudanshi, Rainy Cocoa, and The Master of Ragnarok & Blesser of Einherjar. The show is being produced with Yuu Nobuta (Saihate no Paladin, Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear) serving as chief director, Hisashi Ishii (Ame-iro Cocoa: Side G) as the director, and Shigeru Murakoshi (Zombieland Saga, Murenase! Seton Gakuen) overseeing the series composition.

The previous episode of I’m Quitting Heroing was the beginning of the plot we were hinted at for a long time but could still not anticipate. Even the opening theme song reflects the reality Leo faces from the beginning. He is shown not able to mingle with the humans, even though he is their “hero”. The humans around him pass by, reflecting his time is passing differently than the humans’. Even when he is dropped into the depths of the water, there are just endless hands and eyes around him, showcasing that demons will always be demons (aka enemy) to him, never be seen as a whole. He is shown scared on the field, alone.

The sudden plot twist where they needed to kill Leo took the Demon Queen and her generals by surprise. I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 10 sees them grappling to understand the heavy reality they need to face. Not just for the sake of their goal of getting the stone, but as our ex-hero quite vehemently explained, to save both humanity and the demon kind. It is quite sad to see our main protagonist in so much internal turmoil and pain. As the saying goes,

” You Either Die A Hero, Or You Live Long Enough To See Yourself Become The Villain. “

Harvey Dent in The Dark Knight (2008)

Yuusha Yamemasu Episode 10 had our main characters showcase their strengths. The animation was done well, though the fight can not be regarded as to be truly impressive from all the one-sided annihilation forced down upon by Leo. Leo’s power is terrifying. Imagine a machine that is eternally powered to keep learning and becoming powerful with just one goal in mind- to save humanity and be a “hero”. It is incredible how this anime started from being in the world where magic and demons existed to the sci-fi factor it has now incorporated.

I’m Quitting Heroing went straight from a magical realm that just exists in our imagination to something that can become our scary reality. An AI is doing everything it can to keep achieving its goal- again and again. Leo rightfully understands the position he very likely might be facing in the future and wants to do everything he can to avoid it. The demon side is trying to keep up their end of the friendship, but sadly it cannot last long.

This episode of Yuusha Yamemasu had a grey overtone throughout most of the episode. Accompanied the sad music through most of the scenes, we keep facing the gravity of the situation for the whole 23 minutes. The characters’ true powers were depicted well. The dialogues were good for the majority of the episode. I’m Quitting Heroing Episode 10 might be not as great as its predecessor episode due to the lack of the shock factor, but it was good nonetheless. The ending theme song keeps providing a sense of impending doom.
