Iliza Shlesinger Always Delivers Immediate, Striking and Insightful Comedy

Working now at the pinnacle of her career, the comedian explains why celebrity culture is a scam perpetrated on women who don’t care about superstardom. She talks about being a fat girl in Hollywood, warns of the perils of dating in the limelight, and gives readers fresh insights into love, marriage, divorce and surviving life under a giant microscope.

Infusing her inimitable awkward yet zen attitude with relatable sex jokes and social commentary, Iliza delivers her best standup special yet. When I first heard about this standup special, I assumed it was a parody special. Who would want to watch a standup special about being hot forever?

It sounded so ridiculous that I had difficulty believing the title and the premise. But then I saw the trailer for Hot Forever, and it was the sensation doing a thing she does well: being hilarious and affecting.

Iliza Shlesinger

What’s most remarkable about her is that she does it all as a female comedian, which is as rare as it gets. She’s breaking barriers and setting an example for other comedians by starring.

Stream It or Skip It?

This comedy show is unlike any you’ve seen before. It’s honest and genuine, smart and entertaining as hell. TV can’t tell you much about the humans behind our looks, so sometimes we have to go elsewhere for answers. She provides no-holds-barred takes on hot topics: childhood crushes, candy and most importantly, herself.

Iliza Shlesinger: Hot Forever is currently streaming on Netflix.

  1. Half the jokes you mentioned weren’t in the special I saw. Did you get an early screener? For example, there were no orgasm jokes, or box springs, or online dating, or divorce jokes.

  2. Ok but why talk about respecting women’s boundaries and wanting to be a great mother while wearing her pants pulled down. Is that an example of sending clear nonverbal signals? Is she ready to poop or let’s think how she looks in her underwear. She made a joke about society wanting women to be half dressed and there she is doing what society wants.

    • To be fair, that was not her underwear, that was her pants that had cutouts at the hip, but looking at it quickly, I can see how it would look that way.
