Hunter With a Scalpel Episode 8 Recap

The episode opens with Se-hyun getting rid of the body from the last episode, unaware of the cameras planted all over the area, while Jung-hyun, in the middle of going through the blue barrel case evidence, gets an earful from Hyuk-geun, who tells him to pay attention to his teammates as well.

Later, sitting with Kwon Hyung-jo’s body, Se-hyun talks to Jo-gyun, who tells her what to do with the body and how to get the police off his scent. Se-hyun seems to have no option but to agree with his instructions. Meanwhile, in a conversation with Joon-kyung, Jung-hyun learns that Se-hyun has hidden the presence of Pancuronium bromide in the victims’ bodies. Considering he was already suspecting her, this just makes things worse.

Meanwhile, Se-hyun meets Jo-gyun in the discussed spot, and when he appears, she bops him over the head with a metal pipe. As she’s about to take him out, his car starts to sound loudly, and she rushes over to stop it, unaware that Se-eun has let Jo-gyun free. He walks over and slaps her and then starts choking her, which she can escape thanks to a timely guard.

She rushes to her house to find the blue barrel there and starts hallucinating out of fear. Rushing outside, she stumbles around the streets and finally bumps into Jung-hyun. The two go back to her apartment, and as she cleans up, he goes through the evidence that she has gathered. After tending to her wounds, the two discuss why they chose their respective careers, and just then he gets a text that the forensic report that he had requested is here – the old photo of the child is from Cheongun Port… the exact place where the blue barrel murder had taken place!

I have hopes – now that Jung-hyun is back in the game, it’s getting more interesting because who is going to catch whom?! I think Se-hyun’s motivations are annoying because she’s constantly failing to do what she sets out to do and delaying the investigation. But I guess I understand in a way because of her complicated relationship with her father. I guess the trauma from childhood is making her do things that logically no one would do. I’m interested to see where the series will go from here, as the background of her childhood with her father helps us navigate her complex emotions… at least partly.

This episode was quite good; I don’t care about the silliness of the police not wanting to take a risk while people die violently around them, but just like the police in this series, I tune them out. The core story of the three protagonists is presented well, escalates and leaves us on a nice cliffhanger. The question now is – where will we go from here? That’s where everything hinges.
