Holy Family Season 2: Will the Netflix Show Return and Reveal Gloria’s Fate?

Holy Family(Sagrada Familia) is a thriller drama series about a mother residing in Madrid with her teenage children, who has a complicated history and relationship with her family. The series follows Gloria’s effort to patch up things and start a new chapter of life, while her past finally catches up with the present. The show originally premiered on Netflix on 14th October 2022 and was helmed by Mexican filmmaker Manolo Caro.

The cast of the series includes Najwa Nimri as Gloria, Laura Laprida as Natalia, Gemma Sole as Educadora, Jose Emilio Vera as Padre Parking, Patricia Garo as Ginecologa Marta Cobos, Pol Hermoso as Felipe, Alba Flores, Carla Campra and Ella Kweku. Morever, it has eight episodes with an average length of thirty-five minutes each.

Holy Family Season 2: Has Netflix renewed the Spanish Drama?

The Spanish drama Holy Family(Sagrada Familia) ended on a thrilling cliffhanger, where Gloria, Aitana, Abel and Natalie were all packed in the car along with Baby Nico. The dysfunctional family finally gets united in the most outrageous fashion and without anyone’s intention. Morever, the hitman cum mercenary couple of German and Catarina clashed their car against each other and ended their consignment.

The ending of the show easily prompts for a season continuation and hints at a possible renewal. However, there is no official confirmation from the makers or the streaming giant itself. Therefore, the fate of the thriller is still in deep waters.

The important thing is that Netflix has been pretty successful with Spanish series and shows (Money Heist and Elite) and would not shy away from capitalizing on another critically acclaimed project. Therefore, the fans of the show can be hopeful about season 2.

What Will Happen in Holy Family Season 2?

From the end of season one, we can conclude that the story will start right away with the reunited dysfunctional family. Where Gloria will refuse to part away from Nico and might have a possible clash with Natalie. However, since Natalie never informed her strictly religious father about Aitana’s photograph, we can also assume a kind of pact which will diffuse the situation.

There is also a chance that German survives the car crash and starts to act in Abel’s best interest. Thereby making Abel the new decision-maker of the family. Moreover, season 2 of the series will also see a shift in relationship Dynamics.

Gloria’s relationship with her teenage children was already spoiled after the end of season one. This means their initial plan to escape and live in Canada is out of the question, and they would need a separate strategy that should work in everyone’s favour.

  1. I got hooked immediately on The Holy Family. I’m familiar w some of the actors like Alex García in several previous series, Najwa Nimri from 2 previous series w Alba Flores. Those two workedwell together in Heist and as inmates at an all female prison.

  2. This is one the most captivating thrillers I’ve seen in a long time

The scorpion/mother motif is hard to miss and gives the film a kind of dark ancient Greek and Shakespearean tragedy effect.

A viewer will have to be willing to give up any Hallmark-card expectations, for the central mother character, Gloria, will literally go to any lengths to protect and control her kids because of the danger she herself has put them in.

There are other mother personas, both proxy and potential in this cast of female characters, all making an attempt to bond together in an attempted niched community.

Without spoiling the plot, the “danger” element revolves around Gloria initially forcing her two children to abduct a child, whose identity is crucial to the film’s tension. That abduction further snowballs into another thriller narrative.

There are other beautifully crafted coming-of-age narratives, both gay and straight, that enrich the film’s heightened realism.

Highly recommend but be prepared for some raw violence and realistic sex scenes. They aren’t gratuitous, in my judgment, but they go beyond what most U.S. audiences are used to.
