His Dark Materials Season 3 Episode 3 and 4 Review

His Dark Materials Season 3 premiere episodes did fascinatingly help us catch up with the series so far and lay out our characters on their journeys. We saw Will and Lyra escape to a barren land at the end of the second episode and Asriel came a little too late to fetch Lyra and only to find Marisa, lying unconscious on the ground.

Thus, in His Dark Materials Season 3 Episode 3, we have two interesting segments going hand in hand. One is the reunion of Asriel and Marisa. We see Asriel take Marisa with her and ask her to help her. For Marisa, Lyra’s protection seems the epitome of her existence, whereas, for Asriel, we can already guess it is the Knife and the bearer. In all the screen space the two share, their love, hate, desire and frustration spew across the screen.

Meanwhile, the Knife is broken, Will and Lyra are in a remote place and Asriel’s fairy spy has followed them. To top things up, Lyra continues to have dreams of her dead dear friend Roger and is determined to visit the Land of the Dead. Getting the knife fixed and losing their spy becomes critical for the two’s journey in the third episode of His Dark Materials Season 3.

In His Dark Materials Season 3 Episode 4, things get a little more painful and gloomy. As the episode title suggests, Lyra and Her Death is all about Lyra’s determination to visit the Land of the Dead as Roger is constantly haunting her dreams asking for help. But, from what? Well, to reach the Land, Lyra would need to cross a water body, leaving her soul i.e., Pan behind creating one of the most heartbreaking scenes in the series.

Meanwhile, as Lyra prepares to get to the end of the world to find Roger, we have Marisa make a visit to the Magesterium. Given the history of how she has played the game, it might not be the best bet for our ice queen.

His Dark Materials Season 3 Episode 3 and 4 Ending

At the end of the latest two episodes of His Dark Materials Season 3, we have Will and Lyra making their journey without Pan to find Roger. But, if they will be able to return or not is a big deal now. Marisa is waiting for an intercession from the Magisterium. The latter is, of course, continuing to arrange for Lyra’s death in every way possible. This time they have a bomb in place to make sure that the Second Eve is not the end of them.

Asriel’s war is taking a new turn by the end of His Dark Materials Season 3 as we see him tear up an angel to secure the attention of the Metatron, who is the Regent to the Authority we have been hearing so much about.

His Dark Materials Season 3 Episode 3 and 4: Final Thoughts

If there is one word that sums up both the released episodes of His Dark Materials Season 3, then it is ’emotional’. Starting from Marisa and Asriel being together after a long time to Pan and Lyra’s separation, both episodes were packed with overwhelming moments that gave the show the momentum it needs to wrap itself up in the next three episodes.
