Harry Styles is a man who is never out of style. Since debuting with his bandmates in One Direction in 2010, Harry has managed to keep everyone talking – not only about his music but also about his fashion.
He has raised the bar for men’s fashion and what it means in the 21st Century. Even when he was part of One Direction, his sense of style got him more noticed compared to other members of the group.
However, his fashion and style game really reached its peak after he began his career as a solo artist.
Today, as Harry’s newest song As it Was from the album Harry’s House reaches new heights of success, we look at five times Harry Styles redefined what it means to be a “fashionable” man.
This cover photo shoot for Vogue magazine was published in December 2020. The cover saw him wearing a floor length Gucci dress with a Gucci blazer.
While the cohesiveness of the outfit is a matter for another day, the very fact that a prominent male celebrity chose to wear it on the cover of a major magazine set the internet ablaze.

While many praised Styles for publicly breaking the notions of masculinity, many conservatives were outraged. “Bring back manly men” was a phrase that was plastered all over the news and social media around the time of this issue’s release.
While doing a cover story for Variety magazine, Harry donned this Palomo Spain ensemble. This beautiful suit blurs the line between what is considered masculine and feminine (a common trait with Harry and his fashion). This simple white suit is worn over a white ruffled shirt which almost gives it a 17th Century French aristocracy vibe.
Harry’s post about the article on Instagram is captioned “Bring back manly men” – a (not so) subtle jibe at those who ridicule him for his androgynous style.
Gender-bending fashion was not something that came to Styles suddenly for the Vogue cover. This appearance on the Met Gala red carpet in 2019 is an example of his revolutionary vision as a fashion icon for men.
For the theme “Camp: Notes on Fashion”, Harry showed up wearing a sheer, black Gucci shirt, paired with plain black trousers and a chunky pair of men’s heels. He topped it off with a single pearl earring.
The outfit was designed by Alessandro Michele for Gucci.
Custom made for Harry by Alessandro Michele and Gucci (once again), Styles set foot onto the Coachella stage in April 2022 wearing a dazzling jumpsuit.
He opened weekend one of the event in this sleeveless jumpsuit made of light-catching paillettes. The deep V-neck nearly reached his naval and showed off his butterfly tattoo.
This was the less dramatic of his Coachella outfits this year but, also something that can be more realistically worn.
Harry’s Gucci obsession shines here once again! For the BRIT Awards in 2021, he wore this funky printed Gucci suit complete with a brown leather bag.
As he collected the award for Best British Single that night, his ‘fit redefined men’s fashion once more.
Harry chose to forego the plain and boring “professional” men’s suits for something fun, young and playful (and then topped it off with a purse).
Harry has done this before, wearing traditional men’s silhouettes but pairing them with fun and funky patterns to make it stand out.
In today’s day and age, to be a fashion icon, one must not only look good but also look different. In a sea of brands, companies and influencers that look nearly identical, one must have something unique to get noticed.
Thus, Harry Styles is definitely a fashion icon for today’s era. His menswear looks push the boundaries for what is acceptable in men’s fashion. Meanwhile, his androgynous looks inspire budding fashionistas everywhere regardless of their gender.
As his “Love on Tour” tour continues, we are excited to see what more iconic fashion ‘fits will he bring to the game. His new album, Harry’s House leave us biting our nails to see what he wears for the performances of his new songs.
