Born Edward John David Redmayne on January 6, 1982, now known to the world as Eddie Redmayne, the English actor is a true performer at heart. While he’s best recognised for his stellar metamorphic performances, he first debuted as a thespian, i.e. a theatre actor with the West End theatre. Since then he’s bagged countless illustrious accolades for his performances, both on stage as well as on camera.
Some of his achievements pertaining to the theatre scene include ‘Best Actor in a Musical’ at the Laurence Olivier Awards for Red (2010) and Cabaret (2022); ‘Best Featured Actor in a Play’ at the Tony Awards for Red; ‘The Jack Tinker Award for Most Promising Newcomer’ of The Goat or Who is Sylvia? (2004) and ‘John and Wendy Trewin Award for Best Shakespearean Performance’ for Richard II (2011) at the Critics’ Circle Theatre Awards and more, along with even more nominations.
With the baton shining for his on stage flair, he finally consolidated his film-acting portfolio with the ensemble cast of Simon Curtis’ 2011 biopic My Week with Marilyn. Les Misérables (2012)
Joining yet another striking and multifaceted cast of the film adaptation of the musical in 2012, the actor aided Les Miserables’ rise as it eventually bagged awards like ‘Best Cast Ensemble’ at the Award Circuit Community Awards’, ‘Best Acting by an Ensemble’ at the National Board of Review, the Satellite Award for Best Ensemble: Motion Picture, etc, along with many more nominations for Redmayne too.
The Theory of Everything (2014)
Breaking through his own mould, Eddie headed Stephen Hawking’s biopic directed by James Marsh with grace. Worthy of all recognitions possible, he claimed his first Academy Award in the ‘Best Actor’ category for his performance. A trail of other awards followed as well – ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ at the British Academy Film Awards, ‘Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama’ at the Golden Globes, ‘Film Performance of the Year – Actor’ at the Dorian Awards, ‘Hollywood Breakout Performance Actor’ at the Hollywood Film Awards, in addition to other accolades and nominations for the same. The Danish Girl (2015)
Helming the real-life avatar of Lili Elbe, the first known trans woman who went ahead for the gender-affirming surgery, Redmayne once again clinched endless nominations for his awe-inspiring delivery at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes, British Academy Awards, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Critics’ Choice Movie Awards and more. At the Women Film Critics Circle Awards, he eventually took home the Best Actor trophy.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2017)
Reviving our love for the worldview initially established by Harry Potter, Eddie helms the role of Newt Scamander in this prequel to the beloved series. He won the ‘Best Actor’ title at the Empire Awards, and was also nominated for ‘Choice Movie: Fantasy Actor’ at the Teen Choice Awards. The movie, directed by David Yates, is streaming on Prime Video.
The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2021)
Dramatising another infamous real event set in 1969, the legal drama film directed by Aaron Sorkin (available on Netflix) won in the ‘Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture’ category at the Screen Actors Guild Awards and the ‘Best Acting Ensemble’ prize at the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.
The Good Nurse (2022)
Although the award season for this cycle hasn’t been completed yet, Netflix’s The Good Nurse, yet again based on true events, allowed Redmayne to take on the role of an experience nurse, Charles Cullen, who was eventually unveiled to be a serial killer by his colleague Amy Loughren, played by Jessica Chastain. Eddie has already reserved nominations at the Golden Globes for the Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture, the Satellite Awards, for again the Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture , while he also won the Best Supporting Actor trophy for the same at the Capri, Hollywood International Film Festival.
