Great Expectations Episode 2 ended on a cliffhanger that has all of us wondering about what is to come next in the story and, in Pip’s life. The latest FX on Hulu show is from Peaky Blinders’ Steven Knight and is based on the classic by Charles Dickens of the same name. The production companies involved are Scott Free Productions, Hardy Baker & Son, BBC Studios and FXP.
The main characters in the series include Olivia Colman as Miss Havisham, Fionn Whitehead as Pip and Shalom Brune-Franklin as Estella. Alongside them, we have Ashley Thomas as Jaggers, Johnny Harris as Magwitch, Hayley Squires as Sara, Owen McDonnell as Joe, Trystan Gravelle as Compeyson and Matt Berry as Mr. Pumblechook. Brady Hood directs the released episodes of the show. The runtime for the episodes is approximately 50 to 60 minutes.
Great Expectations Episode 2 Ending Explained
Towards the end of Great Expectations Episode 2, things turn weird. In the sense that, we do get to see the simple sinister things Miss Havisham is thriving on, such as asking Pip to have with Mrs. Givens. However, it is still Estella who holds the key to the ending of the episode.

We see a young Pip learning how to speak French because Estella does so. He seeks Biddy’s help for the same, just so he can impress the girl of his dreams. Later, Pip is asked to attend a society ball by Miss Havisham. Of course, there is a condition that he is going to have to ask a lady that only speaks French. So, although, things don’t start well for Pip, he does manage to land a dance with Estella.
Watching the duo dance only encourages Miss Havisham to indulge more deeply in her plan. She asks Pip if he loves Estella, almost coaxing him too. However, Pip tries to let the old spinster know that his goal is not to fall in love. Miss Havisham is dismissive of him and only wants him to impress Estella. She gives Pip some coins to buy new clothes. But, on buying and returning to the mansion, Pip’s life falls apart as he is informed that his education at the household is complete and he also finds a crying Estella.
He confesses his love to Estella, not so audibly before we make a jump to the present where Jaggers comes inside a bar looking for Pip.
