Golden Kamuy Review

Netflix is the place where manga are becoming shows or movies and, it is high time we realise that we need to make peace with it. With the latest One Piece adaptation and the skilled and tasteful Alice in Borderland, the platform sometimes does a decent job and, sometimes fails terribly. Well, Golden Kamuy is somewhere in the middle. One movie would never be enough to tell Saichi and Asirpa’s story and, it shows. But, there are so many critical arcs missing to boil it down to just certain motivations. Well, we see that this story is not the end but, is it a good start? That very question can spew a debate if you ask us.

Golden Kamuy does a lot of spectacle but, does it tell the story right and justly? Well, we are waiting for the manga lovers to direct us on the right path because, whatever understanding we have, something does not quite feel right. However, that is not to say you will not enjoy this film just for what it is. If you go in without expectations there is so much surprise and thrill that you will end up loving it.

The film tells the story of Saichi Sugimoto and Asirpa. Sugimoto is a hardened war veteran (something that the opening scene of the film sets across quite rightly). A chance encounter leads him down the rabbit hole to look for gold in Hokkaido. From investigating the story of the Indigenous Ainu being the rightful people of the treasure to being on a mission to find the map of the treasure, Sugimoto begins his journey.

The journey that he decides to take alone soon becomes a two-person deal with the entry of Asirpa, who rescues him from a bear attack. What attracts Sugimoto more to Asirpa is how fateful it is that she belongs to the Ainu people. With yet another man joining hands with them, our leads of Golden Kamuy set to get to the pot of old coins at the end of the rainbow. But, no story is complete without a villain working against the goodwill and forces of our heroes which is what comes in the form of Lt. Tokushiro Tsurumi.

Golden Kamuy rolls like a thriller, gives you all that contemporary drama by building characters’ storylines and takes us to Tomb Raider meets Chander Pahar like adventure. As a lover of movies, we are all in for it because everyone does an incredible job to keep us hooked and, never bored.

Golden Kamuy: Final Verdict

Overall, Golden Kamuy dazzles with its visual and narrative richness, it feels like an appetizer to a much larger meal. The film sets the stage for a grand saga, promising more adventures and deeper explorations of its characters and their world.

  1. Its fine a bitt messy some parts, the action scenes is a bitt far away so we getting ALOT of BACK LASHES from their past,

Like TOO LOOONG AND SO MUCH,

Some things unnecessary nude or nude guys showing tattos and stuff,

The sledge riding in the end okies, but did that girl just shoot a horse with a poison arrow??? That is very bad, DONT DO THAT AGAIN…

This needs movie number two ASAP, but less boring dramas like it was a reality show,

    My score: 2.0 of 5,

its has alot of slow scenes on it that stops the excitements in the movies, and second someone fighting the next second someone talking in the middle.
