Gold & Greed: The Hunt For Fenn’s Treasure Review
The first thing that stuck with me after watching this docuseries is that Forrest Fenn was surely an eccentric person who knew how to capture the limelight and make the best of his time. And when it comes to playing pranks, there is surely no one better than Fenn, who goes big with his work. This documentary doesn’t just follow the biggest treasure hunt he set off but also into the person that he was. Fenn not only became the biggest sensation in the previous decade but also made sure to steal the limelight in the best way possible, keeping people curious. However, these events also had negative consequences that he, along with his family, had to face, some even today.
Through the eyes of others, Fenn has been portrayed as many things, but the most popular choice of words for him has been crazy, intelligent, and a prankster who knew how to get people rallied up. He brought a whole generation out of their houses and into the forests, where he set off for their own treasure hunt. This isn’t something just anyone could pull off, but Fenn is unlike any other and not only did he successfully bring everyone outside, but also made a huge profit out of this whole ordeal. Publishing an autobiography with a special poem, which is a cryptic message for a hidden treasure, is the path he chose, and I have to say, this was a very smart move on his part.

But what really captivates me is how his book changed the lives of so many people who found a new breath of life and went through something special. I love how well the documentary captures Fenn’s excitement when he published the book, the excitement of the readers who set off on a treasure hunt, and the craziness some showed when looking for the treasure. And it doesn’t stop there, the documentary also captures the scenic beauty of the places that were being flooded in search of the treasure, especially Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park. The beauty of these places makes up for the cinematic charm of this series, which only makes the experience all the better.
As the series moves forward, we see the madness bubbling up within the hunters to find the treasure and the final result that shook many lives. The chaos that spanned over a decade was surely unforgettable for many, and there are surely many who are going to follow the path set for them by Fenn. I can see why people find it hard to believe that the treasure hunt came to an end, which was only made worse because of the overanalyzing theorists on the internet. The events of the time were too much of a coincidence with the chaos in the Fenn family, but we will never know the truth.

The cherry on the cake in this docuseries is the ending when a sudden plot twist leaves you with a curiosity of your own, but the question that remains for me personally is- Will anything take off as big as what Forrest Fenn did in the previous decade?
Summing Up
This docuseries is anything but simple; it captivates the audience with its wonderful storytelling that will immerse you in an experience that you might have missed out on in the 2010s. However, the ones to get the best out of this series are treasure hunters who need to gear up once again because it has something special that will leave your blood pumping once again. Altogether, the series is wonderfully made and does not leave a moment’s distraction for viewers as it keeps you on the edge throughout its runtime.
