When is Glitter Releasing? All About the Upcoming Polish Political Drama Series

Glitter (Brokat) is an upcoming Polish political drama series which is set to be released on Netflix, next week. The screenplay is written by Maciej Kubicki & Slawek Lonisk and the series is directed by Marek Lechki along with Anna Kazejak. There will be 10 episodes in the series with a runtime of 40-50 minutes.

The series is said to have taken inspiration from the book Professional Girls (Zawodowe dziewczyny: Prostytucja i praca seksualna w PRL) by the author Anna Dobrowolska. It is a historically insightful, feminist-sensitive story about prostitution and female sex work in the years 1945-1989. The book drew information from police documents, as well as radio and press texts.

Glitter Cast

The cast of the series includes Magdalena Popławska, Wiktoria Filus, Matylda Giegżno, Bartłomiej Kotschedoff, Szymon Piotr Warszawski, Łukasz Simlat, Stanisław Linowski, Jędrzej Hycnar and Folco Marchi.

Glitter Plot/Synopsis

The official synopsis of the series reads, “In 1976 Sopot, Poland, three determined women navigate social and political changes as they strive to find independence, financial freedom and love.” The story takes place in Sopot in the 1970s when communist Poland begins to open up to the West. The protagonists are three emancipated and sophisticated women who start providing sex services to enjoy life on their own terms.

The main characters are played by Magdalena Popławska, Wiktoria Filus and Matylda Gniegżno – who decide to become prostitutes while trying to cope with the social and political changes. The show will be a new interpretation of a topic that was taboo in the times of the People’s Republic of Poland, as well as a new look at the history of the customs of People’s Poland.

While the three leads are trying to make some money and have fun, as they pick up their customers based on whom they would like to get intimate with, without any money. They do have plans to pursue different things in life, but money is the lacking constant that can help them reach their goals and might even bring them closer to love, during these difficult times.
