Fire Force Season 3 Episode 8 Recap

Everyone is taken aback by the sudden appearance of Sister Sumire, though she behaves as if nothing out of the ordinary has occurred. It soon comes to light that the sisters had been conducting experiments on children, using them as test subjects to create pyrokinetics. This was done by secretly infusing Adolla insects into the vegetables the children were fed. The horrific revelation explains the mysterious blaze that consumed the church; spontaneous human combustion caused the sisters to perish all at once.
When Hibana attempts to confront Sumire for answers, her efforts are quickly thwarted as Sumire effortlessly overpowers anyone who dares enter her domain. It’s then disclosed that Sumire has been working behind the scenes ever since the failure of the first Great Cataclysm, preparing new pillars for the next one. Shockingly, she claims to have lived for 250 years, clearly indicating she is far from human. The situation takes a darker turn when Hibana discovers that her friends have been transformed into demon-like children. Additionally, it’s revealed that Sumire herself is the seventh pillar.

Meanwhile, in another part of the story, Arthur is feeling defeated and frustrated after being powerless in battle against a superior opponent. Adding to his disappointment is the fact that his sword was destroyed. To lift his spirits, Vulcan plays along with Arthur’s fantasies by pretending to forge a legendary sword from a mystical metal, though in reality, it’s just an ordinary material found everywhere.
Vulcan doesn’t stop there. He orchestrates an entire adventure for Arthur, sending him on a quest to retrieve this so-called rare metal, and even enlists the help of the people of Asakusa to make the scenario more convincing.
Fire Force Season 3 Episode 9 Review

This was one of the most outrageous and outlandish episodes I have ever seen in Fire Force. Even though things were not at all serious, the things showcased here were actually important in the overall plot of the story. This episode continues the journey Arthur was on while looking for the perfect material for his next sword. To dupe him into thinking that he’s going on an adventure, Vulcan had to design a path for him to feel like he is a hero. However, that kind of thinking took Arthur to the nether world.
Vulcan and others try their best to stop him from going there, but Arthur, being Arthur, decides to go anyway. But, weirdly enough, suddenly, Arthur meets his long-lost parents. Apparently, Arthur thinks that they are on an adventure of their own, where they must leave him to save the world. It becomes very clear to us that Arthur’s parents had actually abandoned him and left him to fend for himself while they hid from loan sharks. Thankfully, Arthur is too dumb to dwell on this, and we move on to the fact that Arthur finally got the material he wanted for his sword.

Vulcan does an exceptional job of creating Arthur’s new blade, and now that he thinks he has a magical sword that is indeed very rare, there is a high chance that Arthur will get stronger than ever before. In this episode, Shinra also gets the spotlight, but for a very short time and just towards the end.
Verdict

The majority of this episode was weird, as sad things were showcased in an absurd way. However, the last part, where Shinra manages to meet his brother Sho, indicates that the next episode will be far more serious than this one.
