The episode opens with a glimpse into the past, showing a young Benimaru in conversation with Konro. Even back then, Benimaru was clearly drawn to Konro’s fighting style, openly expressing his admiration for his technique. As the story shifts back to the present, it becomes apparent that ever since the pillars began appearing, infernals have started communicating more frequently, something that had never occurred before. Most believe this sudden change to be a direct consequence of the Great Cataclysm. Tension rises further when two pillars emerge at the same time, an alarming development for Shinra and the others.

Standing near the pillars is a human-sized infernal, revealed to be none other than Benimaru’s former superior. Without hesitation, Benimaru steps forward to confront his past mentor, asking everyone else to stay out of it. What follows is a tense standoff along the waters of the Sumida Riverfront. The animation during this battle is especially striking, and their exchange confirms that this doppelganger not only knows Benimaru but remembers him clearly. Claiming to have returned from hell, he challenges Benimaru to rediscover the true extent of his power, something he insists Benimaru has long forgotten.

Benimaru’s early days of training are revealed, and he was not always the formidable captain he is now. Struggling to find his place, he often let his tendency to fight get the better of him, much to his superior’s disapproval. At the same time, it becomes clear that Benimaru’s deep affection for Asakusa was shaped by this very mentor.

The clash between Benimaru and his former mentor became so intense that it made Adolla come closer. The moon looks weird, with a smiling face, and Beni just told that he will drink while looking at the moon to commemorate the spirit of his old boss.

Following this, Marimo becomes aware of what the Great Cataclysm actually is. He clarifies that dopplegangers are essentially the image others have of someone. Even the moon is an image of that element. He confirms that Adolla’s true form is likely the aggregation of people’s images of things.

Thus, the Great Cataclysm is causing humanity’s perception of the world to merge with reality itself. The White Clad, however, seeks to return the world to fire. Adolla represents the collective imagination of humankind, and if the White Clad’s goal lies beyond those imaginings, then it suggests that all human visions ultimately lead to death. If so, this interpretation aligns perfectly with the White Clad’s true objective. Hence, as these are the current truths, the world might get destroyed soon.

This episode dives deep into the concept of the Great Cataclysm and has very limited action to wow the audience. The second half focuses entirely on Sho and his bond with Shinra as his brother.

Verdict

I liked today’s episode as it cleared up the whole situation with the Great Cataclysm and what the dopplegangers actually mean. But the episode was also more emotional than action-heavy, and it might suit the taste of some viewers who wanted relentless battles.

This was honestly a good breather episode after the fast-paced episodes of Benimaru and his mentor. But again, this season is not getting that much hype, and I hope it does.
