Netflix Film Fenced In Review Contains No Spoilers

In the Netflix movie Fenced In (2022), we meet a very angry Walter and his wife, Joana. Walter’s anger leads to a severe health issue. The doctor advises him to shift to a peaceful environment to help him control his temper. Walt and Joana decide to shift to a quiet neighbourhood.

Walter and Joana’s hopes of living a peaceful life come crashing down due to their noisy neighbour Toninho. Toninho is a Samba musician and has a loud family. Throughout the movie, we see Walt struggling to find some peace and often losing his cool on Toninho. Will this neighbourhood war ever end? We find what happens in the end.

On the streaming platform page, Netflix describes the movie as ‘absurd’. I wonder what made them so honest. After watching the entire movie, I am still trying to find the story’s purpose. I know that not everything movie needs to have a purpose. However, if something is released under the comedy genre, one expects to laugh a bit. I had a straight face and had to reduce my volume at times because of Walt’s constant rants.

Fenced In Still 2

The story is set in a colourful and friendly neighbourhood. However, Walter is the only unfriendly person because he can’t find any quiet time. I understand a character needing peace in life and hating loud sounds and people. But Walt himself is very brash and intolerable.

The makers tried to add humour to the story through his angry monologues. Sadly, it never works. Although, Leandro Hassum does a good job of being angry for at least an hour in the movie. But that’s about it. The appealing factors of the movie are the beautiful neighbourhood and Leandro’s acting.

The screenplay remains stuck for a long time until the climax. We see some development or change in the characters’ lives on screen. But it isn’t extraordinary. But the underwhelming comedy and narrative will not make everyone stay till the end.

Fenced in Review: Final Thoughts

Overall, Netflix’s latest neighbourhood comedy is loud and unfunny. Along with the humour, even the story isn’t interesting. There’s not much to explore in the life of a man who keeps getting angry all the time and yells at others to stay quiet. It makes Walter look like a hypocrite.
