Family by Choice Episode 14 highlights Hae-jun’s feelings of abandonment and being left behind after discovering SanWon’s relationship. While he is on the way to resolving these feelings, he is faced with a confession from Park Dal who leaves him stunned. Meanwhile, the SanWon couple is ready to reveal their relationship to the fathers right before the finale week.
Family by Choice (조립식 가족) tells the story of a family formed by bonds of love rather than those of blood. Two fathers come together to care for their three children who share the bond of love as they grow up together. While life isn’t always smooth for the trio, and feelings of love make their way within them, the family is always ready to face everything together. Starring Hwang In-youp, Jung Chae-yeon, Bae Hyeon-seong, Seo Ji-hye, Choi Won-young, Choi Moo-sung, the drama is available to stream on Viki.
Episode 14 begins with Hae-jun’s resistance to San-ha and Ju-won’s relationship. He remembers how she was against marrying him and letting him officially become a part of the family, and feels a sense of abandonment by the two he trusted the most. With this, he rushes out while the other two along with Park Dal worry about his well-being. The next day, they find out his whereabouts and Park Dal tries to follow him, only to get her leg wounded.
Later, San-ha tells Ju-won that Hae-jun called him when he was in America to tell him that he was abandoned again. This made San-ha angry, as Hae-jun overlooked the love and longing of the people waiting for him at home. While Ju-won continues to appease him and slowly gets somewhere, the fathers soon fall into a misunderstanding about the people they are dating.
Meanwhile, Hae-jun draws up a set of rules for the SanWon couple which San-ha is not so happy about, but this soon cools down everything between them. The next day, Hae-jun is caught by his mother when he sees her with her lawyer but assumes that she is dating a new man. This leads to misunderstandings which clear up soon after when Park Dal tells him to find out the reason why she left him.
Upon doing as told, Hae-jun is filled with guilt for resenting the woman who carried a burden far heavier than he knew which makes him break down. Soon, things begin to settle for him as he finally gets the love of both parents that he had been craving all this while. While he goes to his mother’s house for a sleepover, the SanWon couple share a nervous moment and San-ha tells Ju-won that he wishes to get their fathers’ permission as soon as possible.
The next day, Hae-jun takes Park Dal to the hospital and after a face-off with Hui-ju, Park Dal confesses her love for Hae-jun at the bus stop. While she runs away from embarrassment, Ju-won is excited for her friend. The next day, the trio make their way to the restaurant where SanWon is ready to reveal their relationship. However, things don’t go as planned and the confession comes suddenly when the fathers believe them to be dating different people.
This episode is all about Bae Hyeon-seong and there is no denying that he has left us all smiling and crying for him at the same time. Hae-jun has always been the sunny boy who smiles the widest and has our hearts, but seeing him reveal the feelings he hid this whole time was simply heartbreaking. The actor moved the audience with his performance in this episode and we loved every part of this.
Meanwhile, the ships are sailing hard in this episode as couples bring sweet and exciting moments at the same time. However, Jung-jae and his incoming subtle romance with Seo-hyun (Hae-jun’s mother) also bring a kind of sweetness we didn’t know we needed.
