Elton John Live Farewell from Dodger Stadium Review: Surreal Finale From the Defining Musician

Elton John Live Farewell from Dodger Stadium is a first-of-a-kind concert film that captures the enthralling departure of the British Singer, from live tours. The three-hour-long musical saga is directed by BAFTA and DGA-winning pop director Paul Dugdale, and prominently features Sir Elton John venturing into his all-time hits.

The concert features the influential composer and singer, collaborating with legendary icons, like Dua Lipa, Kiki Dee and Brandi Carlile. Moreover, the feature is produced by Elton’s longtime partner and husband David Furnish.

The final North American concert from Elton John, starts with a seventeen-minute preview of his legacy, and his impact on artists of the current generation. This includes tributes from Billie Eilish, Coldplay, Tony Bennett, Pharell Williams, and the President of the United States of America, Joe Biden, along with the first lady.  Furthermore, the kind of people present on that palette is enough to let you know about the cultural significance of the musical genius.

The high-spirited concert opens up with the classic Bennie and the Jets and then interludes into the fan-favourite Philadelphia Freedom while unsettling the crowd for the rest of the lineup. Even though the musician is now 75 years old, his stamina for entertaining the crown hasn’t decreased a bit, which easily reflects in his live performances.

Right from the start, I was wondering (along with many fans) why will such an excited artist retire from live tours, even though he has decades of concert music left in him. However, Elton answers the question in his own fashion, and sincerity, in front of the fully packed Dodger crowd.

The veteran star brings out his family in front of the audience, including his two children and spouse David Furnish. He states that he will not miss anything from the touring life, because he’ll be able to spend more time with his family and friends. Moreover, the musician also pays a direct tribute to his fans, because of whom, he had a decade-spanning career in the first place.

It’s no surprise that I was waiting for the iconic Rocketman track and hoping it would be placed somewhere at the end of the lineup. However, Elton played one of his biggest hits of all time, in the first half of the concert, and mesmerized each and everyone watching it in the Dodger Stadium, as well as virtually.

I have never been to a live concert in my life, but watching the British singer doing a piano solo of Rocketman, along with the finer additions, is a moment that made me completely emotional. I was in awe of the improvised riff, and it really had a big impact on me. Notably, that was the part which is really going to resonate with his fans forever.

  1. I was at his Pittsburgh show, sorry to let down the writer but this “improvised riff…” Is the same one hels played at every single show. I thought the audio was wonky not enough piano band sound.
