In this new Netflix romantic thriller film, a police officer gets embroiled in a domestic violence case when introverted Saumya turns up battered. Unwilling to file a case against her husband, however, things come to a head after a shocking incident that pushes things overboard for Vidya Jyothi as well as Saumya, making them both act in a desperate bid to see justice served.
The film has a runtime of 127 minutes.

Do Patti Review
In Do Patti, there is a clear attempt to jump from one song to another until we reach the preachy part of the runtime, when things mysteriously get solved too fast and then suddenly everyone starts to deliver a monologue in the midst of a courtroom. It’s a tale as old as time and it is so stale at this point that it will make you lose your mind, with things just conveniently happening for the sake of it and not because it’s pertinent to the story in any way.
There’s something very unrealistic about this movie that will get on your nerves. From the moment it starts, you can feel a lack of effort on the part of the writers to deliver a coherent and relatable story that stays in your mind rent-free. In turn, it’s a forgettable film that forces the shock factor down our throats in such a blatant way that it leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Apart from the performances, thus, the movie has nothing new or even mildly interesting to offer since the storyline is thoroughly predictable and surface-level. The lack of depth is what makes the movie burn to the ground and although something like this would’ve worked a few years ago, in 2024, it just feels lazy.

The problem with the film is that it doesn’t try to reinvent itself or add anything truly relatable. The moment anything of note happens, we immediately jump to the next thing and start dancing to distract ourselves instead of mulling over this horrifying and dangerous tale. The characters are one-dimensional and make the darnest of choices. Half of the time they don’t feel like real people, which is a problem when it comes to such a subject matter. There are chunks of the film that are devoid of any logic and things just happen because they will get the most reaction out of the audience instead of making sense in the context of the plot.
Everything happens very conveniently as if switching places with your twin is something people are constantly doing and getting justice in the most blatant of crimes happens within 2 weeks. Several other situations just don’t make sense and the film wants you to ignore it, ride the impossibility train and show grace – for what reason though, that I don’t know. The problem also is that the film is very predictable. I can get behind the most insane films if it catches me off-guard enough. Do Patti doesn’t even do that. You know exactly what’s going to happen 30 minutes into the runtime and the film doesn’t deviate from that one bit. The 2-hour runtime is just too long and we could’ve done way with the last 15 minutes that are just so preachy that they feel like nails on a chalkboard.
Final Thoughts

Do Patti is infuriatingly silly. The forgettable trajectory of the story, the characters and the situations don’t have enough to keep you hooked. The actors do a fine job, although Kajol’s accent is sceptical. This one is a thorough miss in my book; there are better romance-thrillers out there.
