Dandadan Episode 5 Recap

Today’s episode dives deeper into the emotional core of Momo and Okarun’s relationship, especially following their showdown with Turbo Granny. Okarun is visibly anxious and unsure about how to approach Momo at school now that things have changed between them. Should he greet her like a friend or keep his distance? He worries about how others will react if they see them together, given that he’s the notorious loner otaku, while Momo is popular and well-liked.
To his surprise, though, Momo waits for him at the school gates and even greets him warmly on her own. Her actions make it clear that she genuinely values him as a friend, unfazed by what others might think. Despite going to separate classes, they each find themselves thinking about the other, even trying to find one another during recess, but just narrowly missing each other. The audience can feel the depth of their longing to connect and the importance they place on each other’s views.

An unexpected moment unfolds when they accidentally kiss, catching the attention of Momo’s two friends. Embarrassed by the incident, Momo unintentionally reacts in a way that hurts Okarun. However, this moment leads to a stronger bond as Momo demonstrates her supportive side, showing Okarun just how much she cares.
Dandadan Episode 6 Review

This anime has no shortage of intriguing characters, and in this episode as well, we get ourselves a quite entertaining addition. Yes, she is an insufferable pick-me who might annoy you to death with her antics, but there is a high chance that she will become an interesting addition to the very well-written cast. It is none other than Aira, the girl who tried to flirt with Okarun and then badmouthed him behind his back in the previous episode.
From the way she conducts herself, it is obvious that she is the type of girl who thinks being a klutz makes you cute. Thus, somehow, she suffers from this notion that she is the chosen one as she is pretty. Not only does she perform acts of kindness for the sake of getting praised, but also believes she is doing a service by giving her attention to those less worthy. However, this act of hers was busted by Momo, who embarrassed her, and in this episode, she seeks revenge by spreading malicious rumours about her.

Thankfully, Okarun can become brave when it is needed, and he shows the other boys what they will have to face if they badmouth his very first friend. He also finally realises that Momo is quite a pretty girl who has become very close to him. This adds to the layer of the very well-developed romance that is slowly budding between the two protagonists.
However, the main highlight of this episode is not the fact that Aira is going to be a nuisance but rather how she’s the one who now holds Okarun’s balls. This development was unexpected and opened new doors, considering this ball can awaken spiritual energy amongst humans.

Verdict
Today’s episode was again very engaging and entertaining to boot. The author clearly knows how to get beyond your expectations and put something new in front of you every time. This anime has quickly become a great contender for the best new-generation Shounen title, and hopefully, this series will continue to be this good even in the future.
