Apple TV+’s psychological thriller series is a total mind-bending ride that gets more murky the deeper you get into the episodes. In the first two episodes, the series gives us a look into a mysterious “galactic” disaster and a thrilling ride back to Earth. however, in these two episodes, the series gives us an overview that this isn’t just a thriller; there’s a more emotional side to it that grounds you to the realities of the people involved in these dangerous situations.

Such moments that mix the emotions and the thrills are extremely watchable and impactful and will leave most confused because it doesn’t answer the questions that they ask quickly. In turn, it asks more questions and leaves you trying to figure out what might be happening because everything, as it tries to tell you constantly, is connected. There are several scenes that tie different threads together and make you raise an eyebrow but never, for one second, does it give anything away before time. Of course, sometimes it can get a little frustrating to wait for the answers but the mystery is tight enough to keep things moving at a decent pace.

There’s also the thing where Constellation hints at what might be happening and, as the audience, we see the story from different sides so it’s a little easier to come to a conclusion. The series opens up about its mystery from around episode 4, giving more and more hints and bringing things to the surface that add everything up slowly. The key here, however, is “slowly”, however. The series takes its sweet time to tell us anything and builds on the suspense over and over again until you are bursting with anticipation.

You are also left to question the merit of our protagonist’s mental state because one cannot ignore the issues that astronauts face doing such a tough task. Is she unwell or is she truly at the edge of uncovering the coverup of a lifetime? It makes for an even more thrilling watch because of these questions and you really can’t be sure until you get all the answers, with receipts, of course. The series makes you question yourself constantly with these thoughts as it keeps the answers close to its chest. But, does it blow your mind in the end?

Well, yes, it does. Bringing forth the idea of Quantum superposition, the series turns into an insane ride that makes your head spin. If you thought about giving up on watching in the midst of the runtime at any point, hold on for just a minute because anything that you see at any point will come in handy later on. I also think that the fact that the series doesn’t over-explain anything is very interesting and makes the ride even more thrilling. You put the pieces together and try to work out the complex threads that bind all of these people the more you watch the series.

That being said, Constellation is a bit slow sometimes. In order to create a mysterious and suspenseful atmosphere, the series keeps its cards too close to its chest and sometimes goes a little over the top. The story, of course, is thrilling but it feels a little convoluted sometimes. There are also moments where the dialogues get too heavy and frankly a little boring, especially in the first few episodes. That all, however, gets solved when we reach the last few episodes which are extremely fast-paced and don’t leave a moment for you to find your footing.

Noomi Rapace and Jonathan Banks keep things interesting throughout the runtime. Both hold a tremendous hold over the storyline and deliver amazing performances. You feel their frustrations and confusion regarding this rather insane situation in every frame and they command your attention in every minute. Moreover, Davina Coleman as Alice is also wonderful and you feel for her mental situation throughout the runtime.

Constellation Review: Conclusion

Constellation Review

In the end, Constellation is a great watch. It does test your patience sometimes but never gives up being absolutely arresting and piques your interest throughout. It’s one of the reasons why you won’t be able to stop watching and the reason why you push on till the end. It might require you to spend a lot of time putting the pieces together but when it all comes together, it makes perfect sense.

Constellation will stream on Apple TV+ on February 21, 2024.
