Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 2 Review- Adaptation

Ayanokoji Suzuna Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 2

Adaptation is a weird thing across all forms of media. You can never have an entire medium just full of original stories, and there is always going to be at least some crossover when one medium adapts another into its own. You have theatre plays transformed into movies, books converted to TV shows, and everything else that falls between them. Similarly, anime and manga share a long and extremely fruitful partnership, one that is beneficial to both mediums. You find all kinds of adaptations of manga into anime. Some of them are faithful, and some of them are not very.

Classroom Of The Elite is one of those weird adaptations that get most of the events that happen in the manga right but have to sacrifice a lot of the original tone and meaning behind the original to get there. Everyone from our protagonist. Ayanokoji, to the side characters such as Kei Karuizawa, have been changed in some form or another. That normally shouldn’t matter much since the show can always write around details that match what happened in the manga well enough. However, when ignored side characters who got their roles given to someone else are written in the manga to a character arc, you run into some problems.

That long explanation was necessary to explain what is happening with Kei Karuizawa in the show right now. She was supposed to have more of an impact in Season 1, but some of her scenes from the original source got given to Suzune instead. That leads to this arc, where she is supposed to be a central character, having some weird motivations that don’t quite match up with what the character’s motivation and presentation are supposed to be. She is being presented in a certain way, and the show is feeding us lines based on that, but it is hard to find most of what the show is talking about happening organically in season 1.

Koenji also transformed from an ignorant and opinionated prick to an oblivious muscle freak somewhere, but that change is very much appreciated. Nobody can deny those locks of hair or the glistening muscles that adorn the screen whenever he is around. He is a fun character who adds much levity to the show. Since the show is otherwise full of surly characters who don’t like to expend the energy required to sustain a conversation, that is a welcome change. Yes, that is a dig on Ayanokoji and Suzune in particular.

Besides the Kei storyline, not much happened in Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 2. The game remains as inscrutable and unnavigable as ever, and the show just seems to be waiting for Ayanokiji to come in somehow and save the day. As always, there is trouble brewing in the background and inside the four classes, but not much of it can be talked about right now with this little information. There is a bullying plot point that has begun that I hope the show treats with the dignity and respect it deserves. It seems like we are going to be here a while.

Verdict

Classroom Of The Elite Season 2 Episode 2 was a straightforward outing where most of the time was spent on character development and not enough on storytelling. There appears to still be a lot that we don’t know about the plot.
