Any remake of the Spanish drama Elite was bound to be enticing, and the Class trailer proves just that. The series is an Indian drama switching between English and Hindi languages further to emphasise the economic difference present in the show. All episodes of this series will be streaming on Netflix. The teaser of this show was revealed at the global Netflix’s Global Fan Event titled TUDUM. The series is produced by Bodhitree Multimedia Limited in association with Future East and directed by Ashim Ahluwalia.
This much-awaited adaptation, Class stars a relatively young roster of actors, including Gurfateh Pirzada, Anjali Sivaraman, Ayesha Kanga, Chayan Chopra, Chintan Rach, Cyaawal Singh, Madhyama Segal, Moses Koul, Naina Bhan, Piyush Khati and Zeyn Shaw alongside other cast members. It has been written by Rajesh Devraj, Kersi Khambatta, Raghav Kakkar, Kashyap Kapoor and Bhaskar Hazarika, who have taken the herculean task of adapting a well-received show like Elite.

The trailer shows us the large expanse of Hampton International, the most expensive school in the city of Delhi and these three kids that come to the school as scholarship students. After being made fun of and ridiculed for the way they dress, talk and carry themselves, things start to get more violent. Netflix’s description of the series reads, “Three students from a poor neighbourhood join an exclusive high school for Delhi elite where dark secrets and rumours ultimately lead to murder.”
A short insight into the show reveals how the presence of a new entity in any social circle invites threat and fear of the unknown. For these rich and spoilt families, it is these scholarship students Dheeraj, Balli and Saba invading their exclusive club for the privileged. The scholarship students, however, have no leverage or clout to fit in. They are intelligent enough to be there but don’t have the cultural capital to continue peacefully studying there. This leads to altercations, fights and words only exchanged between passionate nemeses.

There are some trying to fit in, using their physical attributes to that. Meanwhile, others have to resort to social drinking, smoking or other vices to make sure they are all in on the same jokes. The rich are often believed to be holier-than-thou and sophisticated enough to keep their hands clean, but as a character reminds them, “Money doesn’t buy you class.” This becomes an overarching theme for the trailer and presumably for the series as well.
