Bullet Train Review Contains No Spoilers

In Bullet Train, we meet an American assassin named Ladybug (Brad Pitt). Ladybug calls himself unlucky because every time he does his job, something bad happens to people around him. Ladybug is assigned a mission to retrieve a briefcase inside the world’s fastest train in Tokyo. It sounds like a simple mission until Ladybug deals with multiple assassins or threats – Tangerine, Lemon, Yuichi, the Prince, etc.

Every assassin or a bad person is on the train for their respective assignments. But fate interlinks all of them to one big threat. Will Ladybug succeed in retrieving the briefcase, or will his bad luck ruin his mission like most times? We find out everything in the end.

Bullet Train starts on a serious note at a hospital. After Brad Pitt enters the frame, the story shifts inside the train. One has no clue what is going on for a good one hour. However, the screenplay is such that you will be engrossed thoroughly. David and Zak showed every character’s backstory and mission to board that train. However, we are never entirely told what’s happening.

The style of not revealing everything about these various notorious characters works like a charm for the movie to become enjoyable and thrilling. In the last one hour, when all the dots finally start connecting, there are twists after twists that go on till the very last scene. Among the number of twists, one can guess one revelation quite easily. It is about Joey King’s character, the weakest one in the story.

David Leitch, the director of Deadpool 2, has directed Bullet Train. So one expects a lot of gory scenes, action sequences and fun banter between the characters. David has showcased all of this brilliantly in his latest movie. The most fun banter in the movie is between Tangerine and Lemon (Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Brian Tyree Henry).

Ladybug’s phone conversation with his handler also leaves you in splits. Due to his job, Ladybug takes therapy to process the trauma and tragedy. He often quotes his therapist while having conversations with people around him. One can’t help but laugh every time Brad’s character shares the wise words of his therapist.

Along with the crazy banter, what makes the movie entertaining are the action and fight scenes. From punches to gunshots to knives and swords, we see every kind of weapon during the fight scenes. Not even once do the fight sequences tire you. It’s fun to watch them fight like kids. The question of how they got these weapons inside the train stopped bothering me after some time.

Brad Pitt is effortlessly funny as Ladybug. What makes his character exciting to watch is how naive he thinks he is, his therapy quotes and how spontaneously funny he is. The movie wouldn’t have been half entertaining if it weren’t for Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Brian Tyree Henry. Both the actors are incredible throughout.
