Bucchigiri Episode 9 Review: Another episode has dropped from this unusual anime, and I expect good things from Matakara’s Character development. Read ahead to find out more.
Bucchigiri Episode 9 Overview
Bucchigiri?! is a new anime series and an original anime from MAPPA, the studio behind popular shows like Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen. It’s set to premiere this January, so it’s just around the corner!
The series is described as a return to the delinquent/Yanki genre of anime, which was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s with shows like Cromartie High School and Great Teacher Onizuka.

Under the direction of Hiroko Utsumi and the story of Taku Kishimoto, the series also consists of the musical composition of Michiru Ōshima, while character designs are by Takahiro Kagami.
The opening theme, “Sesame” by Kroi, sets the tone, and the ending theme will be Love je t’aime (らぶじゅてーむ)” by Mahiru Coda (甲田まひる).
I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Bucchigiri Episode 9 Review and Recap: Even Mahoro Feels Sorry For Matakara, But Arajin Does Not

Finally, we have an episode, which does not start with Arajin simping for Mahoro. Here, at first, we see Matakara still having visions of a dark figure from which he tries to escape but cannot. On top of that, now that he is possessed by Ichiya, his spirit constantly pushes Matakara to use his powers.
This is a very intense and sad time for Matakara as his brother is not by his side. He is truly alone now that his closest family member, whom Matakara respected so much, receives a fate so tragic. Hence, the most important thing that Matakara needs right now is support from his friends, who genuinely care for him. Sadly, Arajin, who can only think of girls, is not the right person at all for such a task.
He is really irredeemable and has no feelings of appreciation or gratitude towards those who care about him. His love and obsession for Mahoro have become so unbearable that it is also affecting others around him.
Even someone like Mahoro, who obsessively fangirls about her brother, hears about Matakara’s situation and she feels bad. Mahoro also willingly goes to Arajin and reprimands him for not supporting his friend and leaves with the threat that she will only talk to him when he considers Matakara’s feelings. But guess what? Arajin completely misses the point and suspects Mahoro likes Matakara. As if that is important right now in a situation where his friend is going through such a tough time.
The last twist that we got in this episode was somewhat expected because of how the story was building up to this point. Now that Matakara has nothing to lose, he will definitely not be the same understanding friend who has the heart of a saint. It is only natural that at some point, he would snap and come out of his shell. Hopefully, his arc will be more interesting to witness, and his actions will be able to knock some sense into our protagonist, who needs a rude awakening.

Verdict
If we talk about an anime with a likeable protagonist, then this one is not on my list at all. Arajin is not a character I vibe with hence, I cannot support his ideas or believe his justifications for the things he does. The only reason this anime is still entertaining enough is because of the fight and other characters, who manage to hold your attention. My recommendation is to watch the show primarily for MAPPA animation, rather than the hero, who doesn’t display much heroism.
