Bucchigiri Episode 8 Review: Another episode has dropped from this unusual anime, and things are getting interesting. Read ahead to find out more.
Bucchigiri Episode 8 Overview
Bucchigiri?! is a new anime series and an original anime from MAPPA, the studio behind popular shows like Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen. It’s set to premiere this January, so it’s just around the corner!
The series is described as a return to the delinquent/Yanki genre of anime, which was popular in the late 90s and early 2000s with shows like Cromartie High School and Great Teacher Onizuka.

Under the direction of Hiroko Utsumi and the story of Taku Kishimoto, the series also consists of the musical composition of Michiru Ōshima, while character designs are by Takahiro Kagami.
The opening theme, “Sesame” by Kroi, sets the tone, and the ending theme will be Love je t’aime (らぶじゅてーむ)” by Mahiru Coda (甲田まひる).
I have tried my best to keep the review as spoiler-free as possible, but there are certain elements that I had to mention to give proper feedback.

Bucchigiri Episode 8 Review and Recap: Matakara Is In Trouble

The episode starts with the usual scenario that we are all familiar with, which is Arajin trying to get Mahoro’s attention and her not giving him a single minute of her life. I believe at this point, Arajin has become immune to Mahoro’s apathy towards him, and he has somehow deluded himself that she is interested in him to have inner peace. We can see that even when Mahoro deliberately ignores him and leaves, Arajin pins the blame on his friend Matakara. Matakara, being the saint that he is, still fails to understand that Arajin essentially does not deserve his onesided friendship and he should just move on. But apparently, even more suffering is left in Matakara’s fate.
We can see that even when Mahoro deliberately ignores him and leaves, Arajin pins the blame on his friend Matakara. And, Matakara, being the saint that he is, still fails to understand that Arajin essentially does not deserve his onesided friendship and he should just move on. But apparently, even more suffering is left in Matakara’s fate.
Thankfully, the only saving grace in Matakara’s life is his brother, who is soon coming back. He is both excited and overjoyed that he will be able to move in with his sibling. Sadly, before that can happen, a tragedy strikes and Matakara gets plunged into depression and utter despair. You would think Arajin would have some morality in him because of which he might care for Matakara at least once. But alas, that is a phenomenon that Matakara would not be blessed with yet.
Even Zabu, who usually keeps his feelings of dislike against Arajin within himself, tries to knock some sense into our hero. And as usual, that resulted in zero positive outcomes. Finally a very unexpected shift in feelings does come when Matakara is shown a very curt and sad reality by Arajin.

Arajin comes clean about his thoughts and emotions towards their friendship and reveals how he does not appreciate being looked up to when he knows and accepts himself to be a loser.
Thus, things quickly turn dark, and I think we might be entering the final phase of this show, where friendships will be put to the test and old rivalries will come alive. Other than that, this episode was not action-heavy and had more emotional elements as we took a peek at Matakara’s inner conflicts. Hopefully, he will be fine, and nothing bad will happen to the best character of this anime.
Verdict
This episode frustrated me with the antics of our protagonist. He is a pretty unlikable hero who has very few redeeming qualities, and being loyal to his friends is not one of them. Perhaps, the change in Matakara will finally contribute to Arajin’s character development, as right now that is the most important thing that this show needs.
