BTS will always be the true winner in their fans’ heart, but somehow the Grammys can’t see through some well-established facts. As the 65th Grammys went underway on February 6, 2023 at 5:30 AM IST, ARMYs (fanbase name) around the globe crossed their fingers, wishing only the best for one of the best boy groups in the world.
However, despite winning nominations in two categories – Music Video for Yet to Come and Pop Duo/Group Performance for My Universe with Coldplay, and also being featured on the Best Album nomination – the award ceremony shut out the doors for the global K-pop sensation yet again. Having debuted under Big Hit Entertainment (now rebranded as HYBE Labels) in 2013, the boy group has earned its stature as one of the representative acts of South Korea, further propelling the Hallyu Wave on to greater heights.

The group chose to sit the event out as opposed to their previous appearances starting from 2019, when the septet stepped on to the red carpet of the 61st edition of the music awards show, and became the “main event” instantly. While the members of the group – RM (leader), Jin, Suga, J-hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook – had initially expressed one of their ultimate artistic goals to bag a Grammy trophy, they eventually made peace with not having one either. At the end of the day, the love from their fans is all that mattered to them and helped them attain grand avenues throughout their career.
ARMYs, on the other hand, are practically at war with the jury as they perceive BTS’ mere inclusion in the list as a crowd-grabbing manoeuvre, especially since even their mere appearance on the show pulled in a massive percentage of audience. With each year, the fans are starting to see through the employment of these tactics, and now that the beloved group has been deprived of the opportunity for the third time in a row, their global admirers have once again decided to stand tall as their prime supporters.
Twitter trends like “BTS… PAVED THE WAY, ARE UNTOUCHABLE, OUR PRIDE” and rose to the top, calling out the relevance of the music show. Some fans resorted to labelling the event as a “TikTok Music Award Show”, while others put their entire energy into focussing on their favourites and turned to mass streaming their hits.
Even without the trophy, the group stays winning, which only makes it more evident as to which party’s purpose has struck the audiences as a significant matter of concern. Staying true to their core, message and mission, the K-pop band has continued to welcome more and more support over the years, but the same can’t be said for the Grammys anymore.
