Brooklyn Nine-Nine Thanksgiving Episodes
Thanksgiving (Season 1 Episode 10)
The show has a great way of showcasing the character’s vulnerabilities and true emotions through humour, and this episode does exactly that. This is the very first Thanksgiving episode of B99, and Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero) invites everyone to her house for a feast. However, her main motive was to get closer to Holt and win his approval. But the interesting aspect of it all is that she cannot cook! Maybe the ‘perfect’ Amy does have a few imperfections. On the other hand, we learn about Jake’s childhood trauma which is why he does not like the occasion. Nevertheless, he rises above it and creates beautiful memories with his chosen family.
Lockdown (Season 2 Episode 7)
Yet again, the show takes an unpredictable turn to showcase the essence of the holiday in its own unique way. On Thanksgiving day, both Holt and Terry had to leave the precinct for an event. Jake was chosen to be in charge for an entire day until they returned, and the most unthinkable problem was bestowed upon the squad. They had to lock down the entire precinct until they determined whether the parcel containing white powder was dangerous, after finding it. Jake was given a lot of responsibilities very quickly, and although he faltered many times, he was able to keep the civilians and his squad safe.
Ava (Season 3 Episode 8)
This one is the first episode where we get introduced to Tommy Gobbler. His over-the-top antics, combined with an equally brutal revelation, take a drastic dark turn right at the beginning of the episode. However, the story mainly revolves around Terry’s pregnant wife, who was in the precinct, and her husband had to leave for some important work. Jake was responsible for keeping her comfortable, but he also had to take a very important decision which showcased his growth in the series.
Mr. Santiago (Season 4 Episode 7)
Jake’s time to be on his best behaviour arrives as he meets his girlfriend’s father, Mr. Santiago, for the first time. However, his plans do not go as he wanted to since his father-in-law was a step ahead of things. This leads to a rift between the two as they fight over the most important woman in their lives. But Amy assures that although she respects and loves both, she is her own person and does not need either’s approval. Meanwhile, the squad is chased around by a live turkey around the house, which leads to hilarious moments.
Two Turkeys (Season 5 Episode 7)
What happens when the in-laws meet? Yes, utter chaos! That is exactly what happens in this episode. In the last Thanksgiving episode, the Peraltas and Santiagos get together for a grand feast, but things do not quite go as planned. The Satiagos’ condescending remarks and Peraltas’ callous behaviour lead to tense-filled instances which make us both uncomfortable and shed tears of laughter. Meanwhile, Captain Holt conducts a full-blown investigation into the squad after his pet goes missing. From start to finish, the episode is not just hilarious but digs deep into the characters’ emotions, which makes them more relatable.
