Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 4 Recap
This episode put the spotlight on Reo and Nagi’s complicated bond, with Reo, still disheartened, striving to reconnect with his closest friend. At the beginning, Isagi reflects on his recent gameplay footage, analyzing the decisions that led to his final shot. While he isn’t entirely certain what instincts guided him, he realizes he was thinking, assessing, and acting simultaneously in that crucial moment. If he can consistently replicate this, it could become a powerful asset in his future matches.

But now, it’s time for the next face-off, as Reo and Nagi’s team is set to challenge Rin’s. Throughout the game, Reo’s focus is unwavering: he longs to become someone Nagi will truly respect. We’re given a deeper look into Reo’s mindset, tracing his drive back to his privileged upbringing. Coming from a wealthy family, Reo had access to everything he desired and excelled in both academics and extracurriculars, widely regarded as a prodigy and the likely heir to his father’s business. But when he saw that only a select few could reach the pinnacle of fame and success in soccer, he craved that extraordinary level of recognition for himself.
Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 5 Review

All the selections are over, and it is finally time to pick the most promising members for a matchup against the under-20 Japan team. Whoever Ego chooses, we are bound to be disappointed as too many good players will be left out. Not only that, but he must also create a team that can actually play together. That sort of thing is very difficult when we have a bunch of egoists who think they are the best.
In the lineup, at first, we have the most obvious choice, Rin, as the top player and revolving around him, a team has been created that can not just match his potential but also draw out his destructive power to the maximum. Ego also selected some very good potential defenders with a knack for snatching the ball out of their rival’s grasp. The selection of Nagi and Bachira was also given, considering how talented and unpredictable they are. Finally, Isagi getting selected made perfect sense as he’s the only one who can create a synergy with Rin, as well as subdue him to create his own goals.

However, the shocking part of the whole episode was definitely the fact that Shidou was not selected even when he was the second-best player in Blue Lock. Ego dropped one of the most promising players in his team because Shidou is an absolute beast of a player who cannot be handled by anyone in the Blue Lock team. The only way Ego could have made him play in the tournament is by using him as a trump card if he needs a substitution for Rin.
Thankfully, Shidou had something completely unexpected waiting for him. I would say he even got a better deal than anyone else.

Verdict
But that was not all, in this episode, Ego also discusses the theory of Flow. This is exactly the overpowered state of thinking that Isagi enters mid-game right before making one of his best moves. Before this, Isagi had no idea that this was a stage one could unlock with great concentration and practice. Hopefully, we will see our hero master this Flow state and use it abundantly against the under-20 Japan team.
