Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 9 Recap

The episode begins with a glimpse into Rin and Sae’s childhood, offering insight into their dynamic. Rin deeply admired his older brother, Sae, who exuded confidence and ambition, declaring his dream to become the world’s best striker. Inspired by Sae’s passion, Rin showcased his own talent, which Sae encouraged, albeit with the expectation that Rin would settle for being second best to him.
In the present timeline, the impact of Blue Lock’s success is evident on both sides. Isagi and his teammates are energized, strategizing for the next match. Rin admits to using Isagi as a decoy to secure his goals, prompting Isagi to vow that he will score goals of his own and prove his worth.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere in the under-20 team’s locker room is tense and filled with frustration over their inability to score. Seeking guidance from Sae, they are met with his blunt decision to leave the match midway. Sae, fed up with their incompetence, declares that Blue Lock far surpasses their current team and that they are unworthy of playing alongside him. This moment shifts the focus to Shidou, setting the stage for the next phase of the match.
Blue Lock Season 2 Episode 10 Review

With the sudden addition of Shidou, everybody is on edge on the Blue Lock team as they know how the tide can shift with his entry. Now that the under-20 team has changed, the Blue Lock team must also change and adapt themselves, only then can they maintain their lead. Right off the bat, it is very apparent that Shidou is here to play not only against his opponent team but also his own team.
He refuses to let anyone hold onto the ball, and his unwavering ego as a striker makes him a formidable opponent. On top of that, he also has Sae as the perfect supporter who is going to deliver balls to him without any effort. We see an example of this first-hand when Shidou comes up with an extremely dangerous way to score a goal, and Sae makes it happen.

However, in this episode, there were many other characters who came to prominence with the way they played the game. Niko, whose vision on the field is exceptional, finally realises the joy of being a defender after giving Shidou a pretty tough competition. Not only him, but Chigiri also comes off as a fast thinker and a marvellous sprinter. But his own lack of training from the past became quite apparent at a very crucial point of the game.
The highlight of this episode is definitely the entry of beloved players Reo and Hiyori. Hiyori, whose strengths are his vision and controlled touch, maintains a steady play with the others. However, it is Reo’s ability to copy 99% of someone’s ability that outshines everyone.
Today’s episode was again very interesting and filled with some great high moments. The animation has again not been very good, but the way some of the key moments are portrayed does give you goosebumps.

Verdict
I liked this episode and loved the sound design even more. But I must say the funniest bit of this anime is the outrageous amount of trash talk that takes place between the players. Other than that, the match is at a heated intersection right now, from where anyone can win.
