There’s something wrong with Avika Gor’s Bloody Ishq and it’s something viewers will be able to figure out the moment they start watching the 2+ hours movie – anything and everything other than Gor is just so horrible that it stands out like a jarring mess. The storyline is a simple haunted house feature – Neha’s marital home is haunted by something that constantly goes bump in the night. It will remind viewers of the 1920 franchise more often than not… but worse.

Things move around and are pushed over and Neha feels gusts of wind when she is alone. It’s a cliched story with cliched jump scares that don’t make viewers jump anymore. Neha asks “Who’s there?” into the night as she walks around this spooky house by herself because obviously, the ghosts are going to answer her. However, even amongst this mess of cliches, the worst is the special effects which seem to engulf the actors in any given scene. More often than the ghosts trying to murder Neha (which they never do), it’s the CGI who could, at any given point, take the actors into their clutches and none would be the wiser.
The storyline revolves around Neha’s memories coming back and her solving a shocking mystery in her own home. Her losing her memory serves as a mysterious phenomenon because viewers are unable to understand who is right and who is wrong. We learn with Neha about everything that is happening around her but these things are so bad that it’s difficult to take Neha and her problems seriously. The movie is shot so badly that it’s hilarious – there’s a scene where Neha tries to remember something important and poor Avika Gor air chops her way through a few words in order to come up with the name of a book. It’s so hilariously cringy!

The same can be said about the acting – Gor tries her best to make an impact but the dialogues are so cringy that it’s difficult to focus. More often than not it gives you the ick as you hear Neha say “bloody ishq” unironically. Vardhan Puri, who plays Neha’s husband Romesh in this CGI movie, is stiff as a cardboard and uncomfortable to watch as he tries his best to push his lines out of his mouth. Jeniffer Piccinato is there as Neha’s “best friend” Ayesha and is equally terrible. No one really talks to anyone clearly and Ayesha constantly talks in circles like her life depends on it is so old and annoying at this point that you know the creators have introduced this because there are no other ideas to implement.
Bloody Ishq Review: Final Thoughts

This Hotstar horror film is a cringe-fest and a half, full of bad acting and a cliched storyline that makes you roll your eyes into your head. It’s difficult to take it seriously because it’s clear that the creators clearly did not care about trying to make it presentable and half of the time it feels like they forgot to edit it. It’s half-baked in every way possible and makes you question your sanity after a while.
