Black Butterflies (Les Papillons Noirs) is a French thriller series, created and written by Bruno Merle and Olivier Abbou. The series follows the story of Adrien who is low on inspiration for his second book, and to make ends meet, the gloomy novelist agrees to write a memoir for a dying man — and swiftly becomes part of his bloodstained past.

The Forest

In The Forest or La Forêt, police investigate after a teenage girl, Jennifer Lenoir, disappears in a forest in the Ardennes, France and are assisted by her teacher, who had a traumatic experience in the same forest when she was young. Soon they start to uncover a web of unsettling secrets.

Restless

Restless (Sans répit) is directed by Régis Blondeau and written by Régis Blondeau with Julien Colombani. Starring Franck Gastambide, Simon Abkarian and Michaël Abiteboul in the film, which is based on the 2014 South Korean film A Hard Day by Kim Seong-hun.

It shows that after going to extremes to cover up an accident, a corrupt cop’s life spirals out of control when he starts receiving threats from a mysterious witness. Watch this 1 hour and 46 minutes long film on Netflix.

Black Spot

In this supernatural thriller, a police chief and an eccentric new prosecutor investigate a string of grisly crimes and eerie phenomena in an isolated town at the edge of a forest. Police Major Laurène Weiss is the head of the Gendarmerie (police) of her hometown of Villefranche, a small, isolated, fictional town surrounded by a 50,000-acre forest in the mountains.

Prosecutor Franck Siriani arrives to learn why the town’s murder rate is six times the national average; he also has an interest in investigating the major’s clouded past. The forest is a strange and exceptionally dangerous place, in which many of the murders take place. There are currently two seasons of the series and streaming on Netflix.

Marianne

In this 10-part series, when a horror novelist takes a break from writing, she discovers the demon from her book exists in the real world. This malevolent spirit named Marianne draws her home and insists she continues writing or else, sinister events might follow.

Realising that her terrifying stories are coming true, she returns to her hometown to face the demons from her past that inspire her writing. This horror thriller is streaming on Netflix.

The Most Assassinated Woman in the World

It is a period film set in 1930s Paris, an actress famous for her gory death scenes at the Grand Guignol Theater contends with a mysterious stalker and ghosts from her past. The leading lady of the Grand Guignol Theatre in Paris, Paula Maxa (Anna Mouglalis), is known for being murdered in every show on stage. Someone starts to notice that there’s a link between these murders and a series of murders in real life.

Starring Anna Mouglalis, Niels Schneider, Eric Godon, Sissi Duparc, André Wilms and Michel Fau, the film is streaming on Netflix.
