Big Mouth episode 12 starts with Mayor Do-ha standing over Hye-jin’s lifeless body and coolly calling Soo-chul to instruct him to get rid of Chang-ho and Mi-ho after starting the fated riot. Meanwhile, Chang-ho finds No Park and asks him whether he is Big Mouse. To be fair, the room leader looks quite suspicious!

As pandemonium breaks out in the jail, Mi-ho gets a text from Hye-jin, written by Do-ha and looks at it suspiciously, but there’s no time to waste since the alarms have gone off and things are about to get out of hand badly. Meanwhile, a tense and (somewhat) emotional conversation is taking place between Room Leader and Chang-ho, wherein the former tells him that although they didn’t choose him at first, Chang-ho’s involvement with Do-ha was a sure-shot way of ending up dead and someone didn’t want that to happen.

While No Park wanted to use Chang-ho and get rid of him eventually, the latter was smart and turned the tables in his favour instead. Chang-ho looks a bit sad, I guess that’s fair considering he had faith in the room leader, but when he asks him why he so desperately wants Jae-young’s papers, No Park tells him that he needs to know how his daughter died and to show the person who did such a heinous crime who they have made an enemy out of.

The fight is pretty personal for No Park, clearly, and Chang-ho tries to talk his way out of this mess, but the room leader reminds him that the world that he has created is vast, and if he tries to quit, then he will surely die. The look on Chang-ho’s face is a combination of absolute disbelief, shock and sadness… until he starts to laugh. He then puts forth his own condition.

Meanwhile, the guards outside are desperately searching for Chang-ho. When Soo-chul doesn’t get a whiff of him, he orders Mi-ho to be taken out first, with the entire conversation being heard by a guard from the outside. Back at the discussion table, No Park is taken aback by Chang-ho’s request, but all that needs to wait since Mi-ho is in danger.

Chang-ho calls and asks Mi-ho to run, and she does so after getting all of her blood samples. Her path is blocked, though, and Chang-ho rushes to her, fighting off guards on his way. Mi-ho, meanwhile, is no damsel in distress and barricades herself in a room and arms herself.

As Chang-ho is helped out by Chun-sik, a bunch of prisoners try to find Mi-ho in order to kill her. Yoon-gab and No Park find him and help him get to the medical room, while Mi-ho while fighting off several adversaries, is helped by Kwang-yeon. When she and Kwang-yeon come face to face with Soo-chul, however, things get heated. Chang-ho eventually finds them and beats Soo-chul to a pulp.

A hug and a few sorry-s later, Yoon-gab and No Park arrive just in time to pick up the gun on the floor and Yoon-gab shoots Soo-chul dead.

At a function later, Chairman Park is having a field day ripping into Ji-hoon for not stopping his media house from printing the drug scandal news about Joo-hee. Ji-hoon, however, is surprisingly calm and promises to show him results. Meanwhile, Do-ha, too, promises to catch Big Mouse. To everyone’s surprise, however, Joo-hee elects to fill Jae-young’s vacant commissioner of the audit committee position, which the chairman agrees to wholeheartedly.

To the fans’ delight, Ji-hoon does get punched right across the face for disrespecting Joo-hee, and it’s honestly great to watch his cocky butt squirm.

Anyway, back in prison, the four survivors are surrounded in the medical room with nowhere to go. With no other alternative, No Park tells Chang-ho that he will accept his proposal if he promises to keep his word as well. Chang-ho, without missing a beat, tells him that they need to stall the police because he will need some time. Chang-ho then calls Ji-hoon, of all people, and tells him something shocking about Do-ha that makes him absolutely gleeful. He even tells him that he loves him; it’s hilarious.

Do-ha and Ji-hoon get to the prison at the same time, with the former confused after seeing Ji-hoon and Joong-rak there with a whole force. It turns out that No Park and Chang-ho decided that the former would surrender to the police so that Chang-ho could take revenge and then bring his daughter’s murderers to justice by going a step above Big Mouse and the fear that that name creates.

Once outside, everyone is left shocked and confused at what is going on and at the real Big Mouse’s identity. After No Park is taken away, Mi-ho hands the blood from the model inmates to Ji-hoon, and Chang-ho taunts Do-ha asking how he feels now that he doesn’t have the blood that he so desperately wanted. Do-ha, unfortunately, doesn’t have much to say about that!

At Chang-ho’s retrial, his case gets dismissed as a mistrial after the prosecution withdraws the case, and he finally walks out a free man.

Although his prison days are behind him, things are far from over as they now have to find the truth underneath the murky waters. At their new law office, Mi-ho wonders what they should do with the blood samples (no, they didn’t give the real ones to Ji-hoon) since she can’t find Hye-jin.

Later, Chang-ho goes to the prosecutor’s office to officially represent No Park, much to Joong-rak’s shock as the animosity between Do-ha and Chang-ho soars. Chang-ho warns Do-ha to watch his back after his conversation with his client and tells him that although there are several types of Big Mouse out there, he is the most dangerous one there is. Regardless, his biggest mistake was thinking that Chang-ho was incompetent and obedient and, in that vein, they should see this whole thing through.

President Kang is later furious to learn that Chang-ho is going to investigate Jae-young’s death and apply for Big Mouse’s bail, a phenomenon that baffles not only him, Ji-hoon and Joo-hee but also a room full of reporters. Mi-ho, meanwhile, goes to meet Jae-ho and is rather suspicious to find him acting fishy. But first, she heads off to follow the model prisoners, much to her family’s headache.

As Gi-gwang and Soon-tae head off to meet her, Chang-ho talks to Ji-hoon, who has decided to stop by the office. Chang-ho, however, doesn’t waste too much time on him and leaves after threatening him. Meanwhile, Mi-ho finds out where the prisoners are being taken to, but when an accident forces everyone out of the underground cave, she makes her way down there to help 1503 out of the wreckage.

President Kang reminisces his friend telling him that this would happen, and this friend turns out that it was Do-ha’s grandfather. The president and Do-ha continue to talk about justice wherein the latter asks him to release No Park on bail – he will see to it that his version of justice is served.

As No Park gets released, Chang-ho takes him back home, where Big Mouse’s sign becomes apparent – it’s No Park’s restaurant’s sign. Inside, Chang-ho asks him what he meant when he said that someone wanted him to stay alive when he was destined to die. No Park proposes that he should come back to the restaurant the next day at 9 PM, and he will introduce him to them.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen as the moment Chang-ho gets out of the building, the bomb inside the restaurant goes off, killing him and destroying everything else inside.

Big Mouth Episode 12 Review

Ok, I am pretty convinced that Big Mouse isn’t a singular person but multiple people who have been wronged by President Kang and his various organisations. Or, specifically, this weird experiment that is apparently making everyone sick. I am really interested to know what the heck is going on with this experiment and what they are trying to create or solve because, at this point it seems like everyone is dying.

I think No Park coming out as Big Mouse was rather tame and thus, I refuse to believe that this is it. His death was quite sad because I really got where he was coming from, but the more I think about it, the more I wonder how Do-ha got the money. Was he in cahoots with these people at first but then took different paths when he got a bit too violent? Is there some other money that we don’t know about? Did No Park (and his other associates) not take the money at all, and that is totally on Do-ha? I am so confused!

However, happiness and celebrations are in order thanks to Chang-ho finally getting out of prison and having the freedom to live his life! Ah, we now get to see him out there in the world doing some fabulous sleuthing. I won’t be shocked to eventually learn that he knew everything when Do-ha hired him and has been playing him from day 1.

I must, however, wonder what is up with Mi-ho. I mean, I really like her character, but who goes into a collapsing building which is leaking gas? What is the point of this? There are two lives in danger now, thanks to you trying to save the prisoner. Sure, it’s pretty heroic but seldom do things turn out as shiningly as they did here. I think there has to be a limit to what people can and cannot do, and this is something I just don’t understand. I, however, get the sentiment, though just not the logic.

Also, no mention of Jerry in this episode! That’s always a sad thought to have.

All in all, another engaging and thrilling episode with not a moment of downtime. Definitely makes me wonder what comes next!

Check out the series on Disney+ and on MBC.
