Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing Review
The internet is a boon for the world, but every day you find content that soon counters this point and shows us that reality is different- it is but a curse that many have to live with all their lives. In this case, it is children who have faced the worst in their best years that have been ripped off their innocence forever. Piper Rockelle is a name known to many because of her cheerful personality, the content she has put forth and the infamous Squad that surrounds her, which we surely find to be fun and lively. However, reality is different from what we see, and her reality is something that isn’t even visible to her.
This docuseries shows us how a wonderful, brilliant and innocent girl goes from having the best time on camera to losing her true self and becoming a puppet in the race to gain more attention. What could have been the best days of her life have turned into pressurizing her to fulfil a responsibility that wasn’t even hers to begin with. And at the end of the day, only those who have left the circle can truly see the horrors that she and many others are stuck in today.

While everything starts off as a fun thing that the kids are doing and achieving some meaningful fame, it shocks me how soon the tables turn. I like how the documentary focuses on the dark side of everything that is happening and how putting this content can actually have a bad effect on the children’s lives. But what horrifies me the most are the actions of Piper’s momager, Tiffany Smith. The kind of content that she makes the children do is certainly not normal, but the way she so easily brushes it off in order to gain more attention by copying adult influencers is shocking. She is certainly the most shocking entity in the whole series, and when you hear the interviews of the kids who left the squad, it only gets worse.
While Tiffany is certainly the villain in this documentary, I like how the series moves on to focus on the loopholes in the law and how there isn’t anyone really protecting these child influencers. There is nothing that’s truly protecting them, and this is what needs to be fixed. The message of the series is thus clear as daylight, and I am still shocked and sorry for what these kids and every other child influencer around the world has to go through. Children’s innocence should be protected, and they shouldn’t be transformed into open prey for predators online. This is something that everyone needs to think about today and I am hopeful that many other viewers see this as well.
Summing Up
Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing is an eye-opening docuseries on the horrors of the lives of child influencers and the real viewers of their content. Hidden among the many comments are predators who are preying on these children, and this is something that shouldn’t be ignored. The series is intriguing and infuriating with the way it ends, but the message it brings is quite clear.
Watch Bad Influence: The Dark Side of Kidfluencing on Netflix.
