Mikasa, Armin and the rest of the Eldian side has finally stirred into action as we head into Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 3. Which way does this week’s confrontation fall towards? Let’s find out in this review!

Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 3 Overview

Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 3 Title
Attack on Titan Episode 78 , Attack on Titan Season 4 Episode 19

What more is there left to be said about Attack On Titan? Even if you only consider yourself a casual anime fan, this show is probably one that you know about and watch avidly. It is an action and supernatural show based on the works of Hajime Isayama. It is known as Shingeki no Kyojin in original Japanese, and thus this half of the season is also called Shingeki no Kyojin Season 4 Part 2. You can also call it Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2 or Shingeki no Kyojin Final Season Part 2 if you’d like.

This season is being animated by Studio MAPPA, a powerhouse studio behind several immensely popular anime properties, including Jujutsu Kaisen and the future Chainsaw Man. This season is directed by Yuiichirou Hayashi, with Jun Shishido serving as the chief director of the show. The duo was also in charge of Part 1 of the final season, alongside several other acclaimed anime such as Kakegurui and Hajime no Ippo. You can find our review of the previous episode right here.

Falco Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 3

It is spectacularly hard to cover this episode without delving into spoiler territory, but I’ll try my best. This show has a habit of putting things in front of the viewer that make too much and too little sense at the same time. Things that make sense when you think about them practically and through the show’s lens but just feel tonally or logically wrong. Things that you’ll be thinking about for a while, even if you don’t like them.

This entire episode was just that one thing. However, that’s more towards the end of this episode. Let’s take this from the top. We left the last episode as Zeke had been shot in the nape by the Cart Titan, and Eren was raging to get to him before he died. The latest episode is a direct continuation of the last one, as Gabi and Falco try desperately to stop Zeke from using the Scream. The way this confrontation ends and the scenes that follow rank among the top of this series’ most horrifying moments, and it is up to you to imagine how much ground this statement covers.

Titans Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 3

Gabi remains the worst character to ever appear in the show, even though her crimes aren’t that bad in the grand scheme of things compared to some other monsters the show has introduced. What makes her bad is her utmost commitment to ideals that are so obviously nonsensical and godawful and the show’s dedication to not killing her off despite everyone and their mothers wishing for that to happen almost every episode.

Shingeki no Kyojin Final Season Part 2 Episode 3 (or Shingeki no Kyojin Season 4 Part 2 Episode 3, whichever floats your boat) also showcased something else about the show that most people are noticing- while the animation looks gorgeous and masterful most of the time, the character models, especially the titans, are strictly worse than how they used to be back on Season 2 and 3. The show has been through studio changes, and this issue is a product of that ordeal. The show mostly looks great, apart from when it doesn’t. The artists have done a great job, and the CG, as always, is the issue.

Perhaps the biggest crime that part 1 of this season committed was to reduce the roles of Mikasa, Armin and the other teammates that had been on the side of Eren this whole time. Attack on Titan Final Season Part 2 Episode 3 set out to change that, as we saw in the previous episode, but it failed to do anything in this regard. Yes, there were more still shots of them, and they had 10 seconds of screentime more than they previously had, but is that enough for characters the show has established since Episode 1? They are great characters, and I hope the show does more with them.

Overall, this episode did enough to establish it as one of the best episodes of the entire show. However, it didn’t come across that way in this review because all the fantastic things that happened would fall into spoiler territory, so we ended up with the negatives here. I hope you made it to this paragraph before leaving an angry comment down in the comment section. This episode was awesome. We just can’t talk about the specifics because I don’t want to spoil the experience for you. Trust me. It is for the best.

Verdict

Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 3 was one of the best episodes of any show you will ever see. The implications of this one are massive and change your entire perspective of the show. Just watch this one without getting spoiled on what happens.

  1. I mean that Gabi paragraph alone already showed that you are clueless and apparently didn‘t even watch episode 2 which shifted her whole character.

    • Did it, though? Did it shift her “Whole” character? What’s her character, anyways? I’m the best and I’m going to kill Eldians but no I actually won’t but no I actually will but wait no I can’t they are not bad but wait no I will kill one just this once? That’s not a character, and she plain sucks.

      • You split total bullshit just now:
        .
        1) Her “I m the best” come with hard ass training (she work triple more then all others to get her result) – inhearet Armor Titan
        .
Reason “Why she do this” :
        .
        1. She want free eldians from interment zone by proof that they are “good eldians”. Sound quet naive, but she is fucking child! She love her people (that why she risk her life to destroy Armor Train) and try to help them as she can
        .
2.Her personal reason – she love her cousin Reiner, but he is out of time (2 years left). Her wish to become Armor Titan for Gaby means, that she can stay with Reiner even after his death(threw memories)
        .
        .
2)Gaby have all reasons to hate eldians of Paradise – they fuck up her hometown Liberio, kill thousands of people and murder her friends right in front of her. Yep, they are not some kind of innosent saints
        .
Gaby s mistake was that she paint world in black and white, Good and bad. She did not view “Paradise devil’s” as people. In her mind all of them were “bad guys” just because they were born on that island. Gaby jounery threw part 1 and part 2 is lern to view everyone as normal people. Someone are good, someone are bad and someone are assholes. Thing is – they are bad not because they are “devils”, but because they are humans with understandble human motivation
        .
So, yep, Gaby understand that on Paradise live a lot of different kind of people. Someone like Sasha family are very good people, someone like Fcoch and Eren are genocidal maniacs. This understanding did not make Gaby turn on Paradise side or make her a yegerist. So in this ep Gaby (after death of two people who were close to her – Colt and Galliard) shoot Eren head not because he was a “paradise devil”, but because he was an asshole who try to destroy her hometown

        • I do appreciate you putting effort into this right-up in defence of Gabi. I disagree vehemently, however. Yes, I realise that she is a child and that her arc was created to help us realise the other perspective, of what Marleyans thought about Eldians. The issue I have is that she is a very inconsistent character, someone who flip-flops her orientation and allegiances about every five seconds. You’ll see her want to murder everyone she sees and the very next second she’ll be telling Falco “Maybe these guys aren’t really that bad”. It doesn’t help that the Marleyan side of the story just wasn’t as convincing in showing their ideology as an ideal now, or even a competent one. The Marleyan Eldians trying to show the actual Marleyans that “They are the good ones” is an ass backwards and highly unrealistic take, and I’m not sure why everyone just lets the show get away with it. Gabi sucks because the entire narrative she represents sucks even more.
