Attack on London: Hunting the 7/7 Bombers Review

This riveting series showcases testimonials from detectives, eyewitnesses and victims of the 07 July 2005 bombings in the London transport system. The series is an emotionally raw experience while also giving us the unfiltered facts that will leave you on edge. The series is quite cut and dry and doesn’t try to dramatise the events too much, so if you’re in the mood to watch the cold, hard facts, then this one will be interesting.

As mentioned previously, this is a serious documentary that doesn’t waste time trying to invoke emotions. It knows that the story itself is emotionally charged, and it lets the stories speak for themselves. The victims’ testimonies are the most harrowing, and the sheer fear of the situation, the panic of seeing everything go up in flames around them on a regular weekday, will leave viewers devastated. It’s a tragedy like no other, told with the seriousness that it deserves.

One of the biggest wins of the series, though, is that it’s not just detectives investigating the case and giving us facts and figures. It’s a comprehensive discussion surrounding the political and media climate at the time and everything that transpired after it. It’s thorough in its showcase of thrill, anticipation and emotion and showcases them with beautiful fluidity while maintaining the tone of the show.

There are nuances to the story and the documentary that you don’t always see in Netflix shows. I am not saying that I don’t enjoy the more “entertaining” ones, but there’s a time and place for everything. The experiences in this situation are simply chilling and eerie, and not just the attacks, but what happened to London residents afterwards. I don’t want to divulge too much, but it makes you feel a bit sad for the people caught in the crossfire for no fault of their own.
