Arifureta Season 2 Episode 10 Review- A Betrayal

We have talked about the start of the series a bit before, but let’s delve into it a bit deeper, as it is important for the current storyline to understand the original dynamics of the show. The show began with Hajime stuck underground, after only barebones hints were given to us about how he and his group got teleported (or Isekai’d) into this world. All we knew was that a group came there and that one of them betrayed Hajime to the level that he was forced to eat monstrous matter to survive.

Then, Hajime grew into this ultra-powerful and no f’s given maniac with an entire entourage and was easily the best part of the show. His former friends still existed in the background, but the more the show discussed them, the more confusing it was since we knew none of them, and it was almost as if the show expected us to know everyone? Maybe we were all supposed to watch the special episode that discussed the past lives of the heroes before they came to the new world, but since it came after the first season had already ended, and it was only 7 minutes, it failed to answer any questions as well.

Since then, the show has been facing this uphill battle of integrating these supposedly important characters into the plot again, but it has failed miserably every time it has tried. Kaori is the least interesting companion, the show keeps trying to shove Shizuku in our faces which never works, and while Sensei’s arc makes sense, she still isn’t a particularly good character. All of this, just because the show couldn’t give us a proper introduction sequence or an entire episode.

In Arifureta Season 2 Episode 10, the episode featured Hajime going up against God’s apostle in one-on-one combat, and the battle was highly entertaining. Hajime has amassed quite an arsenal by this point, and it is really fun to see him go all out for once. The Apostle is a formidable enemy with quite a few tricks up her sleeve. It’s not exactly hard to predict who won are what happened in this fight, but it was a good time nonetheless and made up for a great first half of the episode.

However, then began the other half, which comprised of the other heroes, and them facing a betrayal from one of their own. That’s why the entire prologue explaining their uselessness was necessary, because they played a huge part in this episode, not much of which was good. Why would we care if there’s a traitor if we don’t know or care about the students/heroes in the first place? Hasn’t the show already done another trailer storyline in Season 1? The show has yet to recover from the initial stumbling of its very first episode, and it shows. There is still yet to be a good storyline with the heroes.
Verdict
Arifureta Season 2 Episode 10 featured some fantastic action scenes and character moments, but it was let down by the usual boring suspects of the other heroes and a pointless betrayal.
