Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania Trailer Easter Eggs: Kang the Conqueror, MODOK and Wounded Scott Lang

There is a new Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania trailer in town and it just kicked things up a notch. This film will be the first instalment in the fifth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and will star Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Kathryn Newton, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfieffer among other cast members. It will be directed by Peyton Reed and written by Jeff Loveness.

In the last trailer, we saw Ant-Man’s perspective of losing the last five years of his life. And from previous clips and shows, we also know that he has a book and a podcast where he talks about his experiences with the events of Endgame.

The recent trailer shows us Kang’s perspective and his loss with time. We see that he essentially gives Scott Lang a quest and in return, he will get the last five years back. Perhaps, he came to this position after seeing Cassie go to jail and follow in his criminal footsteps.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania Easter Eggs Explained

Quantum Realm Satellite

However, all this becomes pretty secondary when Cassie shows Pym, Janet, Scott and Hope a new device she was working on that works like a satellite for the Quantum realm. Janet looks scared, almost like she has been through something in the Quantum realm, specifically with Kang. We see the group get splintered into two, with Cassie and Scott in one group and Hope, Hank and Janet in the other group.

New Ant-Man Suit

We see Scott in his new suit with the Pym particles on his chest this time, perhaps to avoid accidental shrinkage like he did in Avengers: Endgame. It is interesting to see that Scott’s suit barely changes much throughout the series, meanwhile, most of the Avengers change their suit designs regularly. This shows how Stark Industries hasn’t been interfering in the technological advancement of the Avengers anymore.

Introducing Kang

Then, for the money shot, we see Kang, in all his comic-accurate glory. With the blue face, the purple helmet and the blue suit with the green cape. A stark difference from the man we see at the end of Loki. This confirms that He Who Remains and Kang are two totally different beasts. We see that the blue mask falls away brilliantly preserving the comic accuracy of the suit and also convenience for Jonathan Majors.

What is more interesting is the fact that we see some scar tissue on his face. While these two lines were just there in the comic design but Kang’s scars may allude to some past kerfuffles.

This is also the part where we see the full extent of Kang’s army, the rings rising from the city where he resides. The rising rings resemble the ten rings and perhaps the signal we see at the end of Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings could be similar to the signal Cassie has been sending to the Quantum Realm. In the first trailer, Cassie is also discussing how she made the Satellite machine with someone and this could perhaps explain everything.

MODOK: A Darren Cross Variant?

The Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania trailer also introduces a character for the first time in the MCU, MODOK. There is only a fleeting glance at the face but it is rumoured that Corey Stoll, the actor who played Darren Cross in the first film is perhaps his MODOK variant from another timeline. Additionally, Kang’s city looks a lot like the Time Variance Authority from Loki, maybe suggesting that TVA is built within Kang’s city and the attack they were preparing for is actually the one they show us in this trailer.

A New Dynasty

As the text cards show up in the trailer, one of them reads, “Witness the beginning of a new dynasty.” Another easter egg, maybe confirming how it would get bigger for the fifth Avengers movie titled, Avengers: Kang Dynasty. This movie will make it exceedingly clear how big of a villain Kang truly is.

Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania will release in theatres near you on February 17, 2023. Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp are currently streaming on Disney+ Hoststar.
