The show starts off with Selvi (Boncuk Yılmaz) attending Ada’s (Tuba Büyüküstün) award ceremony at the hospital, however, this is not the only reason that she is here. As she goes for another round of chemo, the doctor treating her tells Ada that there has been a relapsing of her cancer. Upon getting the news, Selvi makes plans to meet the spiritualist Zaman (Fırat Tanış) and calls her friend Leyla (Seda Bakan) to help her reach Ayvalık.

Ada is forced to join the trip as she is unable to stop Selvi, however, this trip changes their lives. Zaman tells Selvi that her bodily ailments are connected to the trauma of her father’s death, while Ada meets Toprak (Murat Boz), the man she once loved but betrayed her. On the other hand, Leyla tells the girls that her husband has been cheating on her.

Selvi decides to stay back for a month at the retreat, but this one month brings troubles into the lives of Leyla and Ada. While Leyla’s husband goes broke and runs away, Ada has to resign due to a shaky hand that almost costs them a life. However, Selvi is looking better as she invites the girls to Zaman’s retreat.

Another Self shows the strong bonds the three girls share as they are able to share anything and everything with each other. While we are given no insight into how their friendship came to be, it doesn’t seem to be important and that is normal. The little things like the bracelet that the three are seen adorning on their wrists, and the natural chemistry between the three give the vibes of an old friendship and this is something that can be made up.

But, the main focus has to be the spiritual journey that the three take at Zaman’s retreat. While the man himself is very mysterious, his practice is even more surprising (as experienced by Ada). He not only speaks of the connection between our present and the past, but he is also able to prove this to every individual, even Ada who does not believe in spirituality.

As he speaks about our lineage as a tree which is rooted in our ancestors, he proves that we too carry the burden of theirs. The decisions made by them come back in the form of luck or misfortune, but it always stays in our family. This ancestral journey will really pull you deep into the show which intrigues you until the end.

Summing Up: Another Self

This show is bound to keep you hooked until the end because of the exciting and sometimes frustrating plot, the friendship between the three women, the scenes from the past and the beautiful coastal sceneries that cannot be overlooked. The smooth sailing plot is filled with ups and downs, bad timings and scenes filled with chemistry that sparks love between some characters.

However, this show can be called a circle for it ends where it began. While there is a beautiful character development towards the end and they all seem to be in a better place, the show does end in a way that leaves the gates wide open for another season. But don’t miss out on this series because it is definitely worth streaming!
