All Quiet on the Western Front Trailer: Shows Grim Reality of War Soldiers in the Trenches

All Quiet on the Western Front Trailer has been released by Netflix and is set to premiere this month. It is an upcoming German anti-war film based on the 1929 Erich Maria Remarque novel of the same name. Directed by Edward Berger and the screenplay is adapted by Ian Stokell, Lesley Paterson and Edward Berger.

Produced by Daniel Brühl, Daniel Marc Dreifuss, Malte Grunert, Clive Barker, Marc Toberoff, Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell. Erich Maria Remarque’s raw account of life in the trenches first shocked the world. Published in 1929, the novel was an instant bestseller, followed almost immediately by an epic Academy Award-winning Hollywood movie in 1930. Despite its enduring legacy, the literary classic has never been reimagined by a German director, until now.

The official Netflix synopsis of the film reads, “When 17-year-old Paul joins the Western Front in World War I, his initial excitement is soon shattered by the grim reality of life in the trenches.” Told from the perspective of 17-year-old German soldier Paul Bäumer (Felix Kammerer), Berger’s film begins three years into World War I — then the most brutal and bloody conflict in human history.

As you can see in the brand new trailer, Paul and his friends leave school bolstered by propaganda and dreams of glory and join the army, confident in victory. But the reality of trench warfare is more like a nightmare as they are plagued by rain, mud and surrounded by terrifying, constant death.

An impressive ensemble of actors in the film includes Daniel Brühl as Matthias Erzberger, Albrecht Schuch as Stanislaus “Kat” Katczinsky, Felix Kammerer as Paul Bäumer, Moritz Klaus as Frantz Müller, Aaron Hilmer as Albert Kropp, Edin Hasanovic as Tjaden Stackfleet, Devid Striesow and Sebastian Hülk.

The trailer reveals how, Paul and his comrades experience first-hand how the initial euphoria of war turns into desperation and fear as they fight for their lives, and each other, in the trenches. The film is also Germany’s official contender for Best International Feature Film at the 2023 Academy Awards.
